The star won four AMAs last night, including artist of the year. On accepting the award, Swift said: “Thank you so much for this. And I just wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award, and every single award given out tonight, were voted on by the people. And you know what else is voted on by the people? The midterm elections on 6 November. Get out and vote – I love you guys.”
The acceptance speech follows her recent break from years of political silence. Taking to social media this week, Taylor Swift endorsed two Democrat candidates and condemned Marsha Blackburn, the Republican candidate for her voting record on women’s rights, including domestic violence, stalking and date rape.

Taylor’s political backings correlated with a large spike in voting registration, with over 166,000 people across the US submitting new registrations, 42% of those being aged between 18 and 24. Kamari Gurthrie said in an interview: “We have never seen a 24- or 36- or 48-hour period like this”, adding that “This is leaps and bounds beyond what we typically see”.
Along with artist of the year. Swift won tour of the year, favourite female artist, and favourite pop/rock album for Reputation.
