Camila Cabello Takes Four MTV EMAs
As a music fan, the closest one can get to celebrating their favorite artist’s achievements alongside them is through an award-show broadcast. Camila Cabello took home four MTV EMAs last night, and acknowledged the pure emotion and support that goes into being a fan.
The Miami-born singer won ‘Best Artist’ and ‘Best US Act’. In addition, her mega-hit ‘Havana’ secured ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Video’ for her. While accepting her ‘Best Song’ award, Cabello referenced her 2017 EMA performance of the track, which took place not too long after it came out. She has had quite a journey with ‘Havana’, from “peeing herself” as a performer to the acceptance stage, and has not lost an ounce of positive energy or appreciation for her audience. Upon being honored as ‘Best Artist’, Camila said, “I know what it’s like to be a fan. I remember when I was 14-years-old watching these shows, waiting for my favorite artists to come on. I know how special that bond is between a fan and their favorite artist and I know how special the bond I have is, with my fans.” Watch a clip of the moment below:

Other highlights of the night in Bilbao, Spain, include fiery appearances by Nicki Minaj. The rapper took home two EMAs this year: ‘Best Look’ and ‘Best Hip-Hop’. Minaj initially presented ‘Good Form’, a track off her 2018 album Queen, from a black-veiled descending cage, under a curtain of fire. Later, Little Mix joined her to perform their collaborative hit, ‘Woman Like Me’. Several fans tweeted clips of the performances:

American pop duo Jack & Jack sang ‘Rise’ while, quite appropriately, suspended above the Bilbao crowd. Their unique contribution to the night defied the usual limits of spectacle, and provided a fun interpretation of their biggest single of the year.

The EMAs could not have asked for more from the recipient of their ‘Global Icon Award’, Janet Jackson. The rhythmic legend offered fans a live medley of favorite tracks, old and new, and a timely acceptance speech, in which she encouraged “all-embracing love” and speaking out for justice.

Congratulations should be given to many other artists for their Europe Music Awards victories. Dua Lipa took home the award for ‘Best Pop’, and Cardi B took home ‘Best New (artist)’. Shawn Mendes walked away with ‘Best Live’, and 5 Seconds of Summer with ‘Best Rock’. The BTS Army turned out for their guys, allowing the k-pop group to snag the ‘Biggest Fans’ award over Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, and Selena Gomez.
Little Mix is the world’s favorite amongst popular British and Irish artists, winning ‘Best UK & Ireland Act’. Panic! At the Disco won ‘Best Alternative’, and Marshmello’s work can now be regarded as the ‘Best Electronic’. Congratulations to Grace VanderWaal for grabbing the ‘Best Push’ award, and to Alessia Cara for taking the ‘Best World Stage’ award, thanks to her MTV Spotlight @ Hyperplay 2018 performance in Singapore.
