We got a chance to chat with Jordan Mackampa about everything from his new track, creative process and more…
We are loving your track ‘Under’, can you give us a little background on the song?
Under is about when you spot a stranger you find attractive on a train, at a party etc, and let your imagination wonder into what kinda person they’d be in a relationship. Their favourite foods, movies, morning routine – the
whole nine yards! And you’re thinking about all of this, before building up the courage to introduce yourself.
Can you describe your creative process when creating music?
Starts off with a voice note, mumble some melodies until some words stick to the rhythm I’m searching for, play the melody on piano/guitar for hours on a loop, have a tea break (redbush tea, milky, 2.5 sugars), come back &
write the bridge, record it and it’s done. I can write a song in a day or leave it for months (years) at a time, there’s no in-between.

When your writing songs, where do you look for inspiration?
A lot of the time I write from personal experiences that have already happened, or current to me at that moment. Recently, I’ve been writing about what I’ve been going through within the last 24 hours.
Are there any musicians or genres that helped shaped you growing up?
Yeah for sure, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Koffi Olomide, Lianne La Havas spring to mind in terms of their individual approaches to music, which I’ve found really inspiring. I definitely know Indie-Rock & Folk music helped
shape me as person, one of my favourite band in the world is Coldplay, I’m a ride or die fan for those boys!
When did you realise that you wanted to pursue music?
I honestly couldn’t tell you – I’ve never wanted to pursue anything else with as much passion, as I have for music.
You’ve release 3 EPs, how has your music changed since 2016?
I know it’s gotten better for one! I feel as though I’ve matured a lot since my first EP ‘Physics’, my confidence on stage now is leaps & bounds ahead of where it was on my first headline tour. As well the fact my songwriting &
style has become much more refined also – it’s less ‘singer-songwriter in a forrest’ now for sure!

Do you have plans on releasing a new EP or album?
I’ve gotten past the point of EP’s right now, particularly because I have so much more to say – look out for my album early next year.
Are there any upcoming performances fans can look out for?
Absolutely! I’ll be performing in the US & Canada for the time in the Autumn, I’m playing at the Village Underground on 25th November in London, followed by more dates across Europe this December
