We got the chance to chat with GASHI about everything from his new track Roses, working with DJ Snake and so much more…

Your track Roses is an absolute banger, what inspired the record

What inspired the record, were my friends, the producer Decco

How did they inspire it?

He said the words, “She don’t like roses” and I came up with the whole song.

How would you describe your music in five words or less?

My music and sound in five words would be …. nostalgic, vintage, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Picasso.

You’ve worked with G-Eazy, French Montana, DJ Snake on My Year and Creep On Me respectively, how did those link ups happen?

DJ Snake’s my best friend, French Montana discovered me in 2010. I was hanging around the studio back in his mixtapes. I also shot a video for French Montana and Curren$y, Relax in the Sun, I’m actually in that video If you look close. G-Eazy – I heard he was a fan of my music through YG and his people, um my friend Rory who manages YG and Future in the future. My new manager at ROC Nation is best friends with his manager and they linked us up, and then we became best friends.

Do you have plans to release an EP or album soon?

August, I’m releasing a rap album, and then a second album right after that one. I just can’t confirm the date- but just know it’s on my birthday so google that.

Which artist would you love to collaborate with?

I love Tame Impala. I love Sam Smith. I love Sam Smith so much its crazy. Calvin Harris, Lana Del Ray and Lauryn Hill, and I’d definitely do anything for a sada feature,

You first came into the industry as a song writer, what do you love the most about creating music and lyrics?

I mean the best part is that I came in as a writer because I thought that I was ugly. And then I put out a song with Travis Scott and DJ Snake and it made me realize I could be an artist myself. I used writing to get into the door and then when I was in rooms with a lot of the artists I was writing for, I realized I was better than them.

What sort of impact do you want to have on hip hop and music in general?

I make mean I love hip hop music, its influenced me crazy, but, its deeper than hip hop, deeper than rap, deeper than anything. I’m a full-blown popstar. I am the next Michael Jackson.
