Meet The Mysterious Sebastian Mikael
If you’re in need for an vulnerable artist that will take you on a musical journey, than Sebastian Mikael needs to be on your radar. After his breakout success in 2012 with his track ‘Beautiful Life’ he took a break from music to strengthen his artistry and create a sound that is 100 percent his own.
With a new found confidence, he released his EP I C U U C ME Part I. Describing the record as “emotional” the EP details his relationships and the effects they’ve had on his life, giving listeners an inside look in his mind. With I C U U C ME Pt. II completing his debut EP and a new video for his track ‘Rain’ there seems to be no signs of slowing down for the talented artist.
We got a chance to chat with Sebastian Mikael about everything from his debut EP, video inspiration and more…
You recently released I C U U C ME Pt. II, why did you decide to split your debut EP?
I wanted people to live with each EP and as a listener you can get overwhelmed if there are too many songs on one project. It makes you skip more tracks.
Who or what inspired you while making the record?
Life and everything it entails.
Your track “Time” is R&B gold, what inspired the track and the accompanying music video?
My lady inspired that track and video. I rarely make love songs because I always feel like it has to be honest and organic. “Time” is special.
Which song was your favorite to make on the two-part EP?
“Deep in the Valley” and “DAD” I had the most fun making. Everything we came up with in the studio from the skits to the concept of the songs were freestyled on the spot. Nothing was premeditated, it just happened.
What was it like to tour with Lion Babe?
Lit! I had a blast! I just wish I could’ve done more dates.
Do you have plans to perform or tour with this new release?
Most definitely, it’s in the works.
$ean Wire and Najee Janey are featured a few times on part I. and II. How did those link ups come to be?
They’re my brothers, we’ve been working together since 2015 in Boston.
If you could work with any artist, who would it be and why?
Solange, I think her style and music is art. It’s sonically tasteful and well thought through, but comes off effortlessly like it was all improvised and that’s hard to do.
When did you realize you wanted to pursue music?
My sophomore year in college I decided I wanted to do it for a living.
