If you’re in need of an artist that will that will take you through a celestial journey than Robin Lundbäck’s and his Boy In Space persona is for you. Since his debut in 2018, the emerging artist has amassed nearly 11 million streams, making him an artist to watch.

Growing up in Sweden, Lundbäck has always been surrounded by music. As the years progressed he was able to foster his musicality, smooth vocals and writing prowess eventually taking on the identity of Boy In Space. Tackling the feelings of love, heartache and angst in his material, the rising artist is creating relatable pop music that for the masses.

We were able to chat with Boy In Space about everything from the origin of his name, his latest single Cold, inspirations and more…

How did Boy In Space come to be? What inspired your name? 

I’ve been doing music since I was a little kid and it has always been a huge part of my life. I wanted to find a name that explained me and what is happening in my head in the best way possible. I’m very spacey, so there is a literal meaning to it… but Boy In Space is also the place I go to express some of the darker, nostalgic, sadder, etc. feelings that people who interact with me don’t usually see. 

Your latest single Cold is banger with an amazing production, what was the creative process for the song? 

unheard (the producer) sent me the beat and I really loved the way it sounded and was giving me the feels. The lyrics came very naturally after hearing his production. I think I also had a cold the day that I wrote the song, so that probably influenced it. 

The video for the record takes place at an ice rink, why did you choose to have the video there?

It’s a reference to the title “cold” and I didn’t want anything over dramatic in the video because I feel like the song was already dramatic enough.

How would you describe your sound? 

My sound is Swedish / American pop with influences of indie/urban 

Which genres have helped shape you as an artist?

Being obsessed with songwriters and hit makers from an early stage has always helped and listening to a lot of different kinds of music.

Do you have any upcoming performances?

Yes!!! I’m going to be supporting a tour with a really amazing artist all over Europe this fall. It’s going to be announced very soon if not already by the time this article comes out! 

What do you think is the most challenging part about making music? 

The hardest part is pleasing everyone around you and also pleasing yourself at the same time.

If you can listen to one album on repeat for the rest of your life, which would it be and why? 

It would be Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers because it’s a great mix of free expression and pop melodies.
