Introducing Adam Rom
Emerging singer-songwriter Adam Rom isn’t your average 18-year-old. A skilled producer, singer, and songwriter, the rising artist is a triple threat that’s ready to take the music world by storm. At the age of 12, he taught himself how to play the guitar via YouTube. Since that fateful day, he has graduated from the Brit School and became a multi-instrumentalist
His debut single Obvious – a track about unrequited love – featured on the hit television program Love Island skyrocketing its streams and giving him a top 40 position. With his new single Back To You making the rounds, the singer/songwriter shows no signs of slowing down.
We got the chance to chat with Adam Rom about his new release, being vulnerable in his songwriting and more…
The production on your new single Back To You is absolutely amazing, what inspired the sound for the record?
Thank you! So with me the producing all my records myself, the production is obviously an extremely important part of the song to me. I really like being able to control the direction of my sound by being able to produce it all myself. With these first batch of songs I want to show the progression in the sound, from it starting pop and slowly drifting into the leftfield/ pop area. So for me Back To You’s production is another vital stepping stone to where we’re going to eventually end up. It’s quite bass heavy and takes inspiration from some of the more hip hop leaning side of my music taste.

Your previously released track Curse is filled with some deep lyrics, what’s the story behind the song?
The song was based on a relationship my friend went through. I was his shoulder to cry on throughout the final weeks and the whole breakup so i basically lived it with him lol.
Do you find it difficult to be vulnerable when writing music?
Not really, my music is an extension of me because I’m the one creating it all, so when I go and write with other writers it just makes sense to speak openly about stuff, because it always leads to a better song.
The sound of ‘Curse’ had a summer vibe with it’s island beats, was that intentional when making the track?
It wasn’t actually, I never really make something with the intention of it trying to fit into something, don’t get me wrong if i make a song that sounds great for summer then that’s great, but I won’t force that – I think it restricts the creative process.
When did you become interested in music?
I think when i was around 11/12 I stole my sisters acoustic guitar haha. So it was from that age it just started building and building.
What do you love most about producing?
I always try to make instrumentals that just sound beautiful and tell a story on their own, (this will become clearer as you guys hear more music) the fact I can take a listener on a journey just through sounds that I made and put together is mad. I also love the feeling when I make something that SLAPS.
If you can collab with any artist who would it be and why?
Id love to collab with Mura Masa , he is one of the very few producers I’d actually work with on my own project. His ethos of just making music that he likes and not caring whether is fits into a certain genre is something ive always been really inspired by + his tunes are just insane.
Your debut track ‘Obvious’ was featured on the popular dating show Love Island, what was that experience like for you?
It was kind of a surprise, I really didn’t expect it. I remember my manager called me that day and said it might be played and I just remember not really thinking much of it. I watched it that night and when it played it sort of hit me like, ‘jeez did the song I made in my bedroom really get played on the biggest show in the UK?’ It was pretty special.
Do you have plans on releasing more music this year? An EP or album?
Yes! I have more singles coming out this year 😉
