If you’re looking for a DIY artist that self produces eclectic alternative pop than Madge is for you. Making music that incorporates her love and connection with Celtic mythology, the emerging artist is creating exceptional material that doesn’t fit in just one category.
With sleuth of performances planned during NY fashion week, the producer/singer is ready to cast a spell on music lovers everywhere.
We got to chat with Madge about everything from her new single Bonedeep, linking up with rapper Orrin and more…
Your new single Bonedeep is such a chill bop, how did the track come to be?
I dreamt this song! I dream songs all the time but nothing as complete as this. In my dream my little brother was singing a quiet song – I couldn’t hear him so I leaned in and listened over and over. When I woke up, I new this was my next track. I developed the track with my good friend Danny Scott Lane and then really made it my own with analog synths and my new Moog Minitaur bass. I love dreamy it all turned out.
Another track of yours we love is Blueblood!, what inspired the song?
I wanted to make a dark, house-y song and I had recently met rapper Orrin and was so intrigued by him. When I showed him the starter for Blueblood he made something for it on the spot. Later I had him come re-record his vocals at my home studio. The biggest inspiration for the final version of the track is probably my time spent in Berlin. I love a spooky dungeon club.
What do you love the most about the idea of card reading and magic?
I like that it’s all part of the process of self-actualization. I read cards to find out about my self. It’s like directed self-therapy. I don’t view it as fortune telling or predicting the future
How did the link up with Orrin come to be?
We started chatting on Instagram and eventually met up IRL. (What a time to be alive!)
The video for the record is so trippy, how did you come up with the vision for the visual?
I didn’t have any preconceived notion of the video would look like. I just started editing public domain footage and webcam/phone footage together. That’s how I make most of videos. Whatever happens, happens. When Orrin sent over his surfing footage that was just icing on the surreal cake.
Are there plans of releasing and EP or album soon?
I just wrote and recorded a bunch of songs with my close friend Cubby and there might be an album brewing there. Definitely will be releasing a wild single in October with some intense visual components. Very excited for that.
Do you have any upcoming performances? Will you be incorporating any magical themes?
I’m playing with Santigold in SLC later this month and a showcase with Model Child at Moroccan Lounge in LA on September 4th. I’ll also be part of the Treble series on September 10th in New York. And duh. Much magic to be channelled at these performances. There might be a bodybuilder who is also a poledancer that I will be performing with.
What top five things do you want to achieve with your music and platform?
Wow. Tricky. In no specific order:
-Increased visibility for non-dude producers-Cross-genre sounds and visuals-Money. Enough to pay rent.-One “hit” – maybe that could cross into radio?-Scoring a feature film
