Meet Digital Farm Animals, a UK producer and DJ that has worked with some of pop’s biggest acts. Not sticking to one genre of music, the electronic artist infuses R&B, Pop, Hip Hop, and folk into his tracks, creating a sound that’s outside the box. Since his debut, he has garnered over 6 million listeners and 300 million combined plays on his tracks with no signs of stopping.
We got the chance to chat with Digital Farm Animals and discuss his previous collaborations, Without You single, origin and more…
You’ve worked with some really big names in the music industry. Is there anyone specifically that you haven’t worked with that you are hoping to in your career?
Kanye West, he’s the greatest innovator of our generation and Marshmello so we can compare heads.
What does your creative process look like?
I’ll have some herbal tea, weed and watch some South Park to chill out. Then I go into the studio, sit back, relax, think about how many times I should write about love before it gets boring. Then I like to read, mostly articles in National Geographic. Sometimes I’ll take a fifteen-minute nap and then realise I haven’t had a hit in 2 years. I panic, call my manager and tell him how amazing he is. Then I try to write a hit.
Where did your name come from? It’s so unique!
Whilst at University I recall using Fruity Loops and listening to Pure Garage 2. I looked out the window and sure enough there was a farm. The animals weren’t digital but what I was doing was. So, there you have it!
‘Without You Now’ is such a relatable song. Can you tell us a little bit more about how the song evolved from beginning to end?
AJ, myself and an amazing writer called Myah Marie were in the studio together. We just spoke about how we’ve all had or know people who’ve had relationship ups and downs and how even after a break up have yearned for that person. I began creating the beat and we all just organically came up with the lyrics and concept. Guitars were added, and AJ’s voice just made the whole thing so smooth. I listen to it at least 10 times a day to boost my numbers.

How did you get into music originally?
I got given fruity loops when I was very young. I vaguely remember taking a course online, but I just figured it out myself. So, I practiced every day and after realising I wasn’t going to make it as a professional golfer I found fruity loops again and went from there.
It just blossomed and honestly the 10,000 hours rule is true. I still learn every day and still get writers and producers block. As all my heroes do.
How did you decide which genre of music you liked the most?
I haven’t – or do you know something I don’t know?
You feature AJ Mitchell on the ‘Without You’ track. How did this collaboration come to be?
I just happened to be working with AJ for his project. We did a tune together called ’No Plans’ which I happen to love. We carried on working and probably the next session with did ‘Without You Now’. He’s really an amazing singer and writer and I hope he blows up!
With the year more than halfway done, are there any other major projects/goals you want to complete before the year is up?
I have a bunch more club records and other records coming out I’m particularly excited about. Other than that, I just want to make sure I don’t get dropped by the label.
