Introducing Fiery Rapper Juice Menace
At just 19-years old, UK-based rapper Juice Menace is unapologetically creating her own mark in Hip-Hop! Starting out in the game at 17, she worked on creating her own style and flow – citing YG, Travis Scott, and the Fugees as some of her earlier influences. While working on her craft, Juice Menace also put in the work behind the scenes, building a solid creative team. Now with the release of three singles, including new track Lizzi£ and it’s accompanying video, the emerging rapper is ready to set the hip hop world on fire!
We got to chat with Juice Menace about everything from her track Hardly, working with Octavian producer Elevated and more…
You’re going in on your track Hardly, can you take us into your creative process for writing the record?
Music has always been such a creative and expressive outlet for me. Whenever I’m writing, I feel like I’m venting, I guess. I always love trying new sounds and experimenting, but most of the time when I get into the studio I’ll already have an idea or a specific track I want to make, I always try and capture what I’m feeling at that particular time, so then I’ll be writing whilst the producer cooks something.
The video for the single was lit from start to finish, what was the inspiration for the visual?
There wasn’t much I wanted to keep things pretty simple I wanted the track to speak for itself plus it was my first video so I wanted to have fun for the day. So we just went with lots of bright colours, and we shot the video in Peckham levels, so the building just went perfectly with the vibe we was trying to create.
You opened up for AJ Tracey at NO Jumpers London headline show. What was that experience like for you?
So crazy from start to end, I felt like I couldn’t of had a better tome. It was slyly nerve-wracking, but by the end of the night I was on a mad high plus I’m a huge No Jumper fan myself so getting to be apart of the show meeting Adam and representing the platform was mad surreal and then obviously just seeing my name next to big artists like AJ had me gassed. If anything, it was like a taste of hopefully what’s to come.
What’s it like working with producer Elevated who’s worked with Octavian?
I’m so grateful for whenever I get the chance to work with new producers, and Elevated is crazy talented, and he’s worked with some of my favourite artists, so I was so hyped when given the opportunity to work with him. Then after we finished making Hardly straight away, I was like nah we have to drop this.
When did you fall in love with hip hop?
I can’t remember a time in my life where music wasn’t so apparent. As a kid, my biggest inspirations were dance movies I had to know the entire soundtrack back to front with the steps. Any opportunity I had to perform, I would I’d start dancing from school shows to in aisles at Asda. My mum is a great singer, so growing up, I was always around music I loved whatever she did I guess it was kind of just a matter of time before I created my own.
Name your top five favorite MC’s of all time?
That’s a tough question. I feel like I listen to too much music to be able to pick my top five of all time, but I’d say my top five like right now would be Travis Scott, Future, AzChike, Young Thug & Dimzy
Which hip hop album helped shape you growing up?
In 2011 I got three albums Tyler the Creator Goblin, Drake Take Care, and A$AP Rocky Live. Love. A$AP. I got them around Christmas time that I’d say had a huge impact on me sort of being in my first year of high school, and I still listen to all of them now almost like ten years later.
If you could collaborate with any artist or producer, who would it be and why?
I would 100% love to work with Metro Booming and Mike Dean what they’ve both done for the hip hop scene is mad in terms of producing and sound engineering they’re both behind some of my favourite projects.
What do you hope to achieve as a young MC in the rap game?
I’m really excited to just keep working on my music I think right now is a really exciting time in the U.K. music scene what I hope to do is just hopefully influence young people to just be creative and chase your dreams. For right now, I’m just enjoying the experience and for what’s next.
