2020 Grammy Nominations Are Here With Lizzo, Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X Dominating

The new list of nominations for the 2020 Grammy Awards sees the rise of new artists, taking the necessary steps towards a more diverse list of talent while also leaving many big names to take a backseat. Bringing in new members and a new CEO, Deborah Dugan, the Recording Academy, has leaned away from mainstream this time around, pushing an equal spread field for lesser-recognized artists, especially women in music. Leading the race are Lizzo with eight nominations, Billie Eilish with six nominations, and Lil Nas X with six as well. All are nominated for the creme de la creme awards of the night: Album of the Year and Record of the Year. Here they’ll face off against some household names such as Ariana Grande, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, and Lana del Ray.

But, as always, there are some surprise snubs. Taylor Swift seems to be among the biggest of the upsets, only grabbing one nomination spot in the top awards for her song “Lover”. Other oddities include Sam Smith’s snub for the hit “Dancing With a Stranger” and Halsey with her chart-topping single “Without Me,” which stayed on the US Top Ten for over seven months and went five times platinum.
