Introducing The Dreamy Briston Maroney
Making songs that pull from his life experiences, Briston Maroney is set to capture the hearts of listeners everywhere with his warm and personal music. Calling Nashville, Tennessee home, the singer-songwriter found his footing in the music community performing at DIY house parties –gaining a plethora of fans in the process. Since his 2017 debut with his EP, Big Shot, Maroney has continued to drop emotive and sensitive material. His latest release – Indiana EP – showcases this beautifully with each track representing a delicate piece of his upbringing and childhood. Pulling down his emotional walls with his music, Briston is an artist that is beautifully carving a vulnerable and honest path in music.

Your single Chattanooga is absolutely killer! What was the inspiration behind the track?
Thank you so much, dawg! That song was written at a time when my life was super duper boring, but I still felt like everything was crumbling around me. I was driving home through Chattanooga and wrote the first verse in my head and spilled the whole damn thing out when I got home to my mommy’s house.
When you were creating the concept for the visual, did you have a specific idea or story in mind?
The visual was totally the beautiful interpretation of director Joey Broadnax, and I literally would do anything that sweet man tells me to do.
Every one of your songs feels like a movie, each having a distinct story. What’s your creative process when you’re writing new music?
Thank you!!!!! I love storytelling and the feeling that comes along with seeing a story all the way through beginning to end. I think a song should totally feel like a play or a movie, you should fall in love with the characters or feelings without knowing much about them, and I try to tell tales that make that easy to do!
Your EP, Indiana is fantastic! Which song off the record is your favourite?
Thank you!!!! Man, I think Fools Gold was my favorite one to record. Producer Tone Def and I tried so many wonky ideas for hours on end, and it was so much fun to get completely lost in the recording process.
Since your debut in 2017, how have you changed as an artist?
I have gained 14 pounds and stopped listening to as much Avett Brothers.
What’s your earliest related music memory?
Hearing my grandfather sing Paul Simon songs in my kitchen!
With three EP’s down, will there be an album soon?
Yes!!!!!
What are your top five goals for 2020?
1.) Rewatch all of Bojack Horseman
2.) Write songs that make me cry
3.) Make a record that makes me cry
4.) Get a sick tan
5.) Learn to kick-flip
