Carving their own lane in the music industry, electro-pop trio Off Bloom is a group that needs to be on your radar. Hailing from Copenhagen, vocalist and producers Mette, Alexander, and Mads first formed the band four years ago, after Mette met Mads in an acting course. This chance meeting would take them down the path of music– changing their career goals and lives. Since then, the group as been hard at work – writing, creating, and performing. In 2016 they released their debut EP ‘Love To Hate It’ solidifying their distinct sound in the process. Since then, they have released a string of impressive pop tracks, a second EP, and embarked on their ‘Insane tour’. With their debut album coming out in 2020, Off Bloom is showing no signs of slowing down.
We got a chance to chat with the lead singer Mette about everything from their album, their video for ‘Are You Feeling It Too’, and so much more…
Your new track ‘Are You Feeling It Too?’ is such a funky banger, what inspired the sound?
Thank you! We were listening a lot to daft punk, sting, the weekend and earth wind and fire when we made it! That amongst other stuff of course was what inspired the funky vibe
The video for the record is fantastic! What do you want fans to take away from the accompanying visual for the record?
We wanted to convey the feeling of drowning and partying at the same time – so we thought what better way than having a rave in a swimming pool? And I was trying to get the frustration and the ecstasy out at the same time in my performance when we shot it and i think that’s what I hope people take away from – plus its badass and bold and the lasers kick ass!
What is your relationship with social media and the internet?
It’s hard to say cause we are so dependent on them like everybody else for getting our music and our visions out there, but in general I think social media are toxic to society. Good stuff comes from them too of course like information sharing on important matters, but most of the time I feel they pull us further apart as oppose to bringing us closer together
How did Off Bloom form? What brought you three together?
Mads and Alex have known each other and been in bands together since they were 16. Mads and I met at an acting course in 2012 and after a vocal workshop he asked me if I wanted to come and record some stuff with him and Alex as they had started producing recently – and I said yes! I thought I was gonna be an actor and they thought they were gonna be producers and songwriters solely, but then the fun of writing and creating together kind of took over and we became a band! That’s about 4 years ago now. Im really happy that it happened that way!

Do you have a routine when you’re in the studio making new music?
We usually start out with a production idea or some chords and then we start writing melody on top of that and then lyrics comes as the last part of the process. We are all a part of all steps -we like work really collectively where everybody just throws ideas at the table.
Your debut album is coming out in 2020, what can listeners expect from the record?
It’s not entirely finished yet so it’s a little hard to say haha 😉 but def a versatile sound with a lot of live recorded instruments.
How has your music changed since your 2016 debut?
It has changed a lot and not at all at the same time I think! Our sound has become more organic and soft and technically we have become better songwriters (that doesn’t necessarily means u write better songs haha), but the energy of it and the themes we circle around in our lyrics are very much the same as in the very beginning I think. We have just finished tour where we played a reworked version of the first song we ever released in 2016 called Orchid – and its one of my favorites and so special for me to perform live.
What are the top five things you’re looking forward to in 2020?
