Quick-Fire Questions: Shakka

Powerhouse singer, songwriter, and producer, Shakka, is a British R&B artist bringing saucy beats with lyrics that dig down deep, letting all those feelings out on the dancefloor.

A Notting Hill native, Shakka was immersed in the music world from the start, whether it be alternative tunes from Blink 182 at school, or the rap and Kate Bush played by his siblings. But it was his father’s Dominican influence and reggae rhythms that provided the basis for the artist’s unique sound. It’s a sound that’s allowed him to collab with artists like Basement Jaxx, Idris Elba, and Wiley, and that’s pushed him to the top with his own EPs like “The Island” and tracks like ‘Man Down’ featuring the vocals of AlunaGeorge. With an aim to take down the hard-masculinity stereotype, he writes raw and honest emotion and vulnerability into his lyrics, something that’s hidden in most tracks from male R&B artists, and which will be a key feature in his upcoming album to be released sometime in 2020.
