Meet The In-Demand UK Duo Gorgon City
The UK-Based duo Gorgon City are an in-demand music act that is making waves in the industry. Made up of London producers Kye Gibbon and Matt Robson-Scott, the two first met during their time as solo artists. After doing a few shows together, the two decided to collaborate on a new project, and Gorgon City was born. Making their debut in 2012 with their track ‘The Crypt‘, the guys would continue to drop new music every year – with each release honing in on their DnB and Jungle inspired sound. Since their start in music, they have earned over 700 million streams across all platforms, performed at some of the biggest festivals, and gained a dedicated international fan base. With 2020 around the corner, we can’t wait to see what Gorgon City has planned for the new year.
We were able to chat with the guys about everything from their latest single ‘Roped In’, inspirations, 2020 plans, and more…
Let’s start with the origin of Gorgon City, how did you two link up?
We had the same DJ agent when we were doing our RacknRuin and Foamo projects. We did some shows together and decided to get into the studio and make some music together.
What inspired your stage name?
Working with bashment samples and ninjaman vocals gave us the Gorgon name, and then we linked it to Greek mythology to create our aesthetic.
Your music catalog is filled with fantastic high energy and fluid tracks. What makes your up your sound?
We get influences from all UK dance music. Especially Jungle, DnB, and garage. Sub-bass and uplifting melodies and chords inspire us to write what we do.
You’re latest single ‘Roped In’ is an absolute banger, what went into the creative process for the track?
We play at loads of massive raves and festivals all over the world every week, and we wanted to make a stand out anthem for our sets. It’s going down amazingly and being supported by some of our favourite DJs too.
The Escape album was released in 2018, is there a new album or EP for the new year?
There will be a few singles before our next album. The full album should be done by the summer and out very soon after that!
Your music has 700+ million combined streams, how does it feel that your music has reached so many people?
It feels amazing. It’s mad nowadays how there’s so much data on how and where people listen to your music. It’s turned it into a real numbers game which can be good and bad.
Is there a dream collaboration you two have?
We always say James Blake – also Travis Scott is a genius too.
Since your debut in 2012, how have you guys and your music changed and evolved?
We’ve grown older but still treat what we do the same way. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and make sure we always have fun in the studio and on stage. It’s been a mad few years, and we’re always looking for the next thing that interests us.
