If you’re looking for an artist that creates atmospheric and honest music, then rising talent Josie Man is for you. Growing up between Orpington and Hong Kong, the rising songstress has been surrounded by an array of cultures and people from an early age. With a worldwide background and creative mindset, Josie has created a unique sound that beautifully captures her romantic personality and ideas. Bursting into the scene last year with her track ‘Colours,’ the emerging star has steadily worked on her craft, creating her debut EP “aLOVINGboothang” in the process.

We got the chance to chat with Josie about everything from being a pisces, her EP, when she realized she wanted to pursue music, and so much more…

What type of music did you listen to when you were growing up?

I grew up listening to what my parents played at home or in the car up until I got my first iPod nano, then I asked my older sister to put her music on there. She put on, Spice Girls, Avril Lavigne, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Britney Spears – things like that.

Do you remember the moment you decided to pursue music full time?

It was only pretty recent, I had always sang in bands, but I never had my own artist project. I had videos of myself singing on Instagram, though, and the moment I met my manager, I knew that I was ready to do it alone!

You grew up between Orpington and Hong Kong. Do you incorporate the different cultures in your creative process?

I don’t think I necessarily incorporate the cultures into my creative process or into my musical choices, but I know that it has really influenced what I write about and how I am as a person!

Music aside, you are also a Pisces (One of the best signs). What’s the most Pisces thing about you?

TRUE! I’m so sensitive, and I care a lot about other people, maybe too much!

If you had to give your music and sound a zodiac sign, which would it be and why?

It would absolutely be Pisces!! It’s about being kind and loving and also about being honest and open!

Your tracks ‘Colours’ and ‘Baby Pink & Blue’ are such bangers with a very vintage feel. What was the inspiration behind the track?

Thank you! The inspiration was love. The writer and producer, Hannah Yadi and Josh Scarbrow, who I worked with on these two songs, are also in relationships so we all spoke about it for a long time. I feel like it was what connected us three the most because we all had something to bond over and relate to!

Your debut EP has just dropped. What were some of the challenges you faced during the making of the record?

I think I was most worried about whether people would even listen to it or understand the whole concept of it; because it was my first time releasing music. But I became proud of the music and the people I made it with!

With your fantastic new music making the rounds, what else do you have planned for the year?

I’m looking to spread positivity through my music – to make people feel like they’re a part of something and to do some more live shows! I’m just so excited for whatever happens next.
