Billie Eilish Addresses Body Shaming on World Tour Opener

Thursday 12 March 2020

18-year-old Billie Eilish kicked off her world tour in Miami on March 9th, where she used her platform to share a powerful message about body shaming.

During the concert, a video was played where Eilish shed her shirt as a monologue describes her struggles with being sexualized as a teen in the limelight.

She states, “If I wear more, If I wear less, who decides what that makes me?… Is my value-based only on your perception?” She then drives her message of self-worth and dignity home by questioning, “Or is your opinion of me, not my responsibility?”

The young artist has stated that she wears baggy clothing in hopes that people will focus on her music rather than her body. It is safe to say her incredible vocal ability and defining discography shine through; just this year, Eilish has won 5 Grammys and obtained the title for Bestselling Global Digital Single of 2019 with her song ‘bad guy.’
