Over two years since the debut of his unique sound on Bad Romantic, Ebenezer is back with an anticipated follow-up. The self-taught musician from Hackney, London, recently brought his talents to Los Angeles, where his innovative mixture of hip-hop and R&B earned him collaborations with big-name artists like Jeremih, Ty Dolla $ign, and A Boogie wit da Hoodie. That sense of ambition led to his collaboration with producer Duke Dumont on ‘Inhale,” which gained over 20 million streams on Spotify. Ebenezer is now incorporating a twelve-tone music technique into his smooth production and vocals – his new self-produced single ‘‘Flaws & All’ comes ahead of his EP Bad Romantic 2.

We got to chat with Ebenezer about everything from his music style, his upcoming EP and so much more…

Do you remember the moment you fell in love with Hip Hop and R&B?

I’ve always been in love with hip hop from the Nas ‘Illmatic’ days, but the album that changed my life and made me decide to do music was Kanye’s ‘College Dropout’. Ps Kanye’s – ‘Dark Twisted Fantasy‘ is the greatest album of all time.

How did you land on your name ‘Ebenezer’?

Ebenezer is my actual birth name.

Was there an artist that was a staple in your music library growing up?

Kanye West and Drake had a heavy influence.

Do you remember the first song you ever wrote?

Yup, it was bloody awful, but I still have it on my laptop, just to remind myself how far I’ve come and the growth I have made since starting my music career.

How would you describe your sound?

I wouldn’t say I have a specific sound, each project I make differs in sound. ‘Bad Romantic 2’ I would describe as “Nocturnal R&B”, but it’s not confined to just R&B. Due to my versatility, being able to produce, write and mix, I’m able to exist in other genres without compromising the authenticity of my voice.

Your debut EP, ‘Bad Romantic’ and ’53 Sundays’ project, are fantastic – both sonically and lyrically. What’s your creative process when creating music?

I am completely erratic when I create. I could be driving, having a shower hanging with friends my mind is always on music constantly creating, there’s never really an off switch. So when I’m in the studio, I never fall short for ideas. Also writing and producing for people like DaniLeigh, Ty Dolla $ign, and Mahalia means sometimes I have to get in different mindsets erratic and more methodical.

You lay all your feelings on your track ‘Flaws and All’. Do you find it hard to be vulnerable when writing and creating?

I think that’s what music needs, vulnerability, and honesty. I love all types of music but find it difficult to relate to this deceptive lifestyle artists love to portray.

You have a new EP out now, can you tell us a bit about it? What’s your favourite track, and why?

‘Bad Romantic 2’ is just the continuation from ‘Bad Romantic’, but this time me accepting my own flaws of being a “bad romantic”. The first project I was in a bit of denial, but during my growth as a person and musically I notice I am actually bad at communicating and the lack of time I have to spend romantically.

Without being bias all of the tracks are my favourite, they change every time I listen to them, and because I produced, wrote, and mixed them all myself, they all are like my children, and I have to love them equally.

With new music on the way, what else can fans expect from Ebenezer this year?

They can expect ‘the ex project’ a project with every record titled the name of my ex. Complete and brutal honesty, so much so I might have to write my will in advance.
