Introducing Grammy Nominated Artist Elderbrook
Elderbrook is a British artist who expertly blends the house, indie, and pop genres to create monster dance hits. Three years after releasing his first EP, his track ‘Cola’ with Camelphat earned a 2018 Grammy Nomination Best Dance Recording and an Ivor Novello nomination for Best Contemporary Song. The multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer-songwriter continued his success the following year with the Diplo co-produced single ‘How You Do’ and the Rudimental collaboration ‘Something About You’ which reached over 40 million combined streams.
His headlining live acts have sold out global dates from across the UK to The Roxy in Los Angeles. Elderbrook is once again proving to be a unique, electronic staple artist – his new single ‘Numb’ and his feature on Casper Cole’s ‘I Want It All’ comes before the release of his debut album set for release this summer.
We got to chat with Elderbrook about everything from what inspired his new single and video ‘Numb’, his creative inspiration and more…
What inspired your name ‘Elderbrook’?
The name cane from Reggie Watts. I was watching his stand up around the same time I was looking for a new stage name. He was taking the piss out of an English accent and basically listing really English sounding names. He then said, “now introducing the lovely lady Elderbrook,” and I thought if I was called Elderbrook, that would be a great sample. Then I called myself Elderbrook.
Is there an album or artist that you look to for creative inspiration?
There are so many people I’ve been inspired by, but LCD sound system is up there at the top, I think. I think that have a really unique way of conveying any emotion but in a cool way. They can be emotional, funny, and aggressive all in the same song. It’s had to describe, but they do it so well.
You are a multi-instrumentalist, a producer and a singer/songwriter. Which do you favour the most when you’re creating new music?
I think it changes a lot, but recently it’s been singing again. That’s what comes most quickly and naturally to me.

Let’s talk about your new single ‘Numb’, what was the inspiration behind the record?
I started writing the song in Los Angeles with a friend and music producer/writer Nicky Nighttime. He brought up this great synth sound, and I played in the octave 3rds thing that I was really into at the time. I came up with the synth hook and then started singing. Around that time, I had been touring a lot, and so naturally, the subject of the song veered towards loneliness.
Was it difficult to write the track? Especially since you touch on personal themes like loneliness?
I don’t think it’s difficult writing about personal stuff. Actually, it probably makes it a lot easier! So many cliche songs about boy meets girl, it’s nice to have real-life experiences that can influence lyrics that are a bit different but still relatable.
The video for the track is fantastic, can you tell us a bit more about your direction for the visual?
Yeah, like I said, the song is about loneliness, and so I wanted that to come across in the video. It was important for me that the video conveyed the underlying message that everyone is lonely and in a strange way that brings everyone a little bit closer together.
What type of message do you want fans to take away after watching the video?
That everyone is lonely and that that loneliness can bring everyone together.
You have a debut album coming out later this year, will the record touch on similar themes like ‘Numb’? What can fans expect?
Definitely, the album it’s all about people needing people and the trials and tribulations that go along with that.
