Introducing Trap-Rock’s Breakout Star Trevor Daniel

Houston native Trevor Daniel is making his mark in the trap-rock sphere. The emerging artist first took a stab at music during his teen years, creating beats from his home. While getting familiar with the art of producing, Trevor experimented with an array of genres, which lead to him creating his unique sound. Over the years, the singer-songwriter has created a plethora of music and collaborated with some of the industry’s hottest artists – including Finneas O’Connell and Summer Walker. Between releasing his highly anticipated debut album ‘Nicotine’ and earning millions of streams, it’s safe to say the breakout star is showing no signs of slowing down.

We were able to chat with Trevor Daniel about everything from his new album ‘Nicotine’ his hit track ‘Falling’ and so much more…

Let’s take it back to the beginning. What was your earliest music memory?

When I dyed my hair blue and getting dropped off at guitar center every single day.

Growing up, did you always know you wanted to pursue music? 

Yeah, I also wanted to play football. I had it in my head that I was going to be in the NFL and also have a full professional music career. Eventually, music became my only focus.

How would you describe your style and sound in 5 words? 

I make music I like.

Your track ‘Falling’ is an absolute banger! What was the inspiration behind the record? 

Thank you! ‘Falling’ I made with my homies who produced it, and I wrote it about getting out of a relationship and promising myself i wouldn’t do it again. And then finding myself in driving school a few weeks later with this girl I like. and the back and forth that was going on in my head at that time

You also worked with blackbear and Summer Walker, respectively, on the remixes. How did those two collaborations come to be? 

Shoutout social media, shoutout DMs, shoutout to our teams for making it work.

What’s an average songwriting session like for you? Do you find it challenging to write about intimate topics? 

It’s all over the place. I normally like to write alone, it’s less distractions, and I start getting anxious if I’m in a creative headspace, and too many conversations are happening. Music is like my journal, so i can choose whether or not it gets released. So i don’t really find it that challenging to write about intimate topics.

You recently released your long-awaited debut album ‘Nicotine’. Can you take us into the making of the record? What were your goals sonically and lyrically for the album?

I was in an Airbnb most of the time while writing and recording the main demos of the album. I was thinking a lot about this relationship I had last year that ended up going south and how I find myself often being addicted to the feeling of love and all of the euphoric things that come with that, even though it was bad for me in this particular situation. I wanted the album lyrically to tell a story of what was going on in my head but sonically to show the emotions that I was feeling. That’s why some songs are technically sad songs, but the beat sounds happy and vice versa. Because there’s always that underlying tone of knowing something is bad for you.

With your brand new album making the rounds, what can fans expect from you in the coming months? Any virtual performances down the pipeline?

A ‘Nicotine’ deluxe album. To really push it over the edge and a lot of social media interaction. I’m pretty impulsive with all of my decisions, so we’ll see what happens, but the fans are my main focus right now.

The world is currently going through a hectic and confusing time, what type of advice or words of wisdom do you have for your fans right now? 

We’ll figure this out together. We should remember how divided the world was before all of this, and as dark as it may seem right now, this might be the one thing that can bring us together while highlighting what’s important and what’s not. So stay strong, practice social distancing, and wash your hands.
