Introducing The Empowering R&B Songstress Sid Tipton
Sid Tipton is a dynamic emerging artist that’s ready to hypnotize R&B listeners everywhere. Music has always been a constant force in the young singer’s life. Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, Sid gravitated to the arts, singing whenever she could and teaching herself how to play the guitar and piano. Her passion for music continued to flourish over the years, writing consistently and honing her vocal and musical craft.
With over 100 songs written at the age of 17, Sid took a leap of faith and began her quest for music stardom.
The songstress found herself signing with the Bluestone a publishing company owned by the legendary producer Timbaland. Sid has wasted no time since signing, having worked with some of music’s biggest talents. With a confident and unapologetic sound and intimate lyrical content, Sid Tipton is expertly carving her own lane in the music sphere.
We were able to chat with the rising talent about everything from growing up in Nashville, her latest single ‘Look Both Ways’, studio must-haves, and more…
When did you start getting involved in music?
It was always a passion of mine. Even if I wasn’t in the industry, I would always have full journals and voice memos, lol. BUT when I finally decided that I would pursue it as an actual career I was 17. That was my first time in an actual studio and I knew absolutely nothing about it. I’ve grown a CRAZY amount in that regard…. And have a lot of people including myself to thank for that…I played some writers nights and found myself in some meetings and ultimately was thrown into some “co-writes”. That’s really how I started getting better. Did about a year of that in Nashville where I’m from then lived in LA a handful of years and really have a lot of people in that city to be thankful for as well. It’s buzzing with creative energy there. I can’t wait to go back.
You were born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. What was it like to grow up in “Music City”?
I was yeah. I actually grew up fifteen mins outside of Nashville in a spot called Brentwood. That wasn’t my favorite place, but in the summers, especially, I would be downtown peeking in on music scenes and imagining myself in them. It was really inspiring for me around that time of year because of festivals and stuff.
Growing up, which artist spoke to you the most?
TBH….Eminem was so honest, and the most songs added to my iPod lol. I related.
You’ve collaborated with some music’s biggest acts. Which experience do you cherish the most? If you could work with any artist, who would it be?
I’m always so grateful for the opportunity to work with artists I grew up being inspired by, but if I have to pick, I would say I cherish the Timbaland collabs the most. I have very special memories of being super young and having big dreams and staring at the tv watching videos he was in of songs he produced. That was the most healing and full-circle moment for me. I’ve had some time to think about this, and if I could work with any artist, it would be Mariah Carey. That would ultimately just mean so much to me.
Let’s talk about your latest track, ‘Look Both Ways.’ What type of headspace were you in when you were writing the song?
I was so ready to be in a legit studio and write on the mic with talented people who are amazing at their Job! I had been writing alone a lot, so I was coming off of that and was so inspired. The loop is magical to me, so it wasn’t hard. The music has a confidence to it, and I think the whole thing turned into a cute lil flex. Just a friendly reminder lol.
What are five studio must-haves when you’re creating new music?
A phone charger, vibey lighting, a microphone (w speakers), headphones, and water!!!! (My bonus is wine)
How would you describe your sound?
Uplifting but also melancholy…vulnerable but empowering…I’m in love with vocal production and hidden details…love the freestyle vibe more and more but also love a well-written song. <3
Will you be releasing an album or EP soon? What can music listeners expect from the project?
I am currently working towards a complete project, haven’t decided yet if that will fall under EP or album, but I am really looking forward to it. Listeners can expect me to go balls out. That will be a debut project and bucket list check for me.
What are you looking forward to the most when the days of self-isolation are over?
I can’t WAIT to go see my friends in LA and create with great minds/meet new people!!! and I can’t wait to party!!! And get TAN !!!!!! AND BE IN A STUDIO. I’m getting excited. haha. I’m excited to live life to the fullest while we can!!
