Introducing Bye The Way One Of Pop Music’s Hottest Upcoming Acts
Fresh from releasing their debut single ‘Too Good to Let Go’, British newcomers Bye The Way are ready to take on the world!
The band launched just before the introduction of lockdown in the UK, so how are they coping with being popstars in isolation? We caught up with Stevie, Killian, Jake and Louis, to discuss being labelled a ‘boyband’, selling out Wembley Stadium and life without social media. Read our full interview with the band below…
For anyone that isn’t already aware of Bye The Way, how would you describe yourselves in 3 words?!
Fresh, Distinctive, Exciting
How did you guys come together? Did you all know one another before joining the band?
Louis: We mostly met through social media. However, Jake and I were friends before as we live close to one another.
You’ve just released your debut single “Too Good to Let Go“, how did it feel to finally release something you’ve been working on and unleash it for the world to hear?
Killian: It was really exciting Its still early days though and we can’t wait to show the world what else we’ve got coming over the next couple of months!
You have a definitive pop sound. Are you nervous about being labelled as another manufactured boyband?
Jake: I wouldn’t say so and I believe that we can distinguish ourselves from other bands within the same genre. We take pride in the fact that our musical influences come from artists from multiple genres. Therefore, we think we can create a sound that will differentiate us from being a typical manufactured group.
What sets you apart from other all-male groups such as 5SOS, The Vamps and PRETTYMUCH?
Louis: We have all established our own authenticity and style of music that makes us different to other pop boy bands.
How would you describe the creative process for the band? What are the steps from having an initial song idea to having a fully finished track?
Jake: We usually start with some inspiration, and it’s usually Killian who plays around with a few different chords until we find the right vibe for the track. Throughout all of this, we try to stay relaxed and keep it fun, and eventually, we’ll come out with something we like.
Have you played any shows yet? If not, what would be on the Bye The Way bucket list?
Louis: Wembley Stadium, definitely! I think for any artists in the UK, Wembley is the dream!
What are your favourite social media platforms, and why?
Killian: Personally, I love Instagram because I can be creative, interact with the audience and they get to know a little bit about me and my lifestyle. YouTube and TikTok are great too.
Do you think that social media is a help or a hindrance to musicians today? How do you think you would have coped as a band, without having social media as a promotional tool?
Stevie: I think social media has positives and negatives. For artists, it just means our music can reach much larger audiences than it would without, so in that sense it’s great!
If you could have written any other song by an artist, which song would you love to claim as your own?
Stevie: That’s a hard one, probably a Max Martin Track maybe or an Adele song! –
Killian: ‘Man In The Mirror’ by Michael Jackson has always been the theme song to my life. The song is a masterpiece and the message is more relevant than ever nowadays so I’d probably go for that one.
Louis: Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’. This song took the world by storm with its heavily emotional lyrics and just how relatable it was.
Jake: I would love to have written ‘I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor’ by Arctic Monkeys.
With Lockdown easing slightly, what are the first things you’re going to do once you’re able to move around freely in public?
Louis: I think we’re all just going to have a massive party. It’ll be great to hang out as a band again too, as we’ve all been isolating separately.
If you have to share the Lockdown experience with any other artist, either dead or alive, who would make the best isolation buddy?
Killian: I’d share it with Bruno Mars because we both play various instruments and we’re both addicted to jamming so I’m sure we’d get on really well.
We’re re halfway through the year and we’ve already been treated to one single from you. What else can we expect to be gifted within 2020?
Jake: We’ve got lots of new music coming in 2020 and you’ll be able to get a taste of the next track probably sooner than you think.
