After taking a bit of break from music, JONES is back with her new single and forthcoming music era. Since she was a child, JONES always had her sights set on becoming a musician. Finding solace in singing, the R&B songstress drew inspiration from the legendary Whitney Houston and iconic Mariah Carey. As the years progressed, she took up an array of musical activities – including the violin, choir and a songwriting course. Her path to stardom soon led her to attend the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. Through the program, JONES honed her performance skills and overall artistry. Since then she has released an array of singles and projects, including her innovative album ‘New Skin’ and brand new single ‘Giving It Up’. With the release of her follow up project approaching, JONES is ready to dive headfirst into this new era and make an honest connection with music lovers all around the world.
We were able to chat with JONES about everything from her brand new track ‘Giving It Up’, the creative music video for the single, and more…
We need to talk about your fantastic single ‘Giving It Up’. It has such a romantic and feel-good vibe. What was the inspiration for the record?
It was pretty much a diary entry of what was going on in my life at the time, I was working through a bit of a zigzag new relationship, and it happened to be summer at the time, and I guess this all just reflected in the sound. It was quite Neptunes influenced too I’ve always been a huge fan of their productions.
The video for the track is absolutely stunning! Can you walk us through the concept of the visual? What do you want fans to take away after watching?
Thank you! Well I’ve been quite obsessed with dreams lately, and I really wanted to create something that felt surreal and dreamlike – that was my main thinking process, I liked the idea of shooting in totally contrasting backgrounds wearing strange outfits.
You’ve just dropped the Joe Hertz remix for the track, –absolute banger by the way. How did this link up happen?
Thanks again! I’m a fan of Joe, and we’ve worked together before on a song called Simple, and some other writing – he seemed like he would be a great fit for remixing the song.

Before the release of ‘Giving It Up,’ you were kind of on a hiatus, what were you up to two during your time away?
I was writing songs! From the outside, it probably seemed like not much was going on but I never really stopped and was busy creating music and honing in on how I wanted to it sound, I felt like I needed to incubate for a moment.
How would you describe this new JONES era?
It’s still me, but perhaps just more defined and I’m taking more risk lyrically than before, I feel that I can express myself more freely in these songs.
Can you give us a sneak peek into your upcoming work? What can fans expect from JONES in the forthcoming months?
There is a steady flow of music that I’ll be releasing over the next coming months and some collaborations to look out for too and of course, once it is safe some shows!
A little off-topic, but how has lockdown been treating you?
It’s been a strange departure from reality…it was difficult at first, but I’ve definitely found a rhythm, I’ve been trying to make the most of the situation by learning some new things that I never would’ve had the headspace to look into so on the other side of this I’ll be emerging as a slightly different person, as I’m sure we all will in some way!
What plans or activities are you looking forward to doing when the coronavirus dust settles?
Seeing my family, playing shows, travelling, socialising normally, eating at restaurants, going swimming…
