Spindle Home Session: Jack Gilinsky Performs His Debut Solo Track ‘My Love’
Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Jack Gilinsky is no stranger to music – having been part of the pop duo Jack & Jack. His time in the group earned him a massive amount of success, with seven years of touring, garnering streams upon streams, and earning multiple award nominations. Fast forward to 2020 and Gilinsky is taking the next step in his music journey by going solo. With the release of his debut single ‘My Love’ making the rounds, we can’t wait to follow Jack through this new chapter in his music career.

Heya Jack thanks so much for sitting down with us! How are you doing currently? Is quarantine treating you well?
I am currently doing well. trying my best to stay active & healthy during this time where we are all safer at home.
What does an average day look like for you? What shows or movies have you recently binged watch?
An average day looks something like this:
– Wake up around 9:30 am
– Wash my face & brush my teeth
– Go downstairs & make breakfast (3 scrambled eggs & brown rice)
– Workout at 11 am
– Chug a protein shake & shower after working out
– Figure out what needs to get done for work & execute (i.e. interviews, performances, photoshoots, etc.)
– Make & eat lunch around 2 pm (ground turkey & brown rice, with a veggie shake)
– Take my dog, cub, for a walk with my family (whoever has time to take 30 min away from work, usually my dad)
– Get on social media & see what’s going on in the world
– Watch Netflix or a movie or anything that inspires me (i wanna be an actor really bad)
– Play guitar
– Call friends that I miss & catch up (haven’t seen most of my friends since early march)
– Help my mom with dinner around 7 pm
–Eat dinner with my family around 8 pm
– Watch a show or movie with my family
– Go to bed around 12 am
Some shows that I have been really into lately are outer banks & Hollywood. both on Netflix & both are shows that I would 100% recommend to anyone. they have inspired me so much in a time where inspiration is hard to come by.
What’s the first thing you’re going to do once the official self-isolation order has ended?
The first thing I’m going to do when the self-isolation order is officially lifted is going back to LA & get more work done! I’m really looking forward to recording more music, shooting more music videos, & shooting professional photos in legitimate studios. I’m used to doing all of this from my home in Omaha, Nebraska at this point.
Okay, let’s talk about the music, absolutely in love with your single ‘My Love’! Can you take us through the making of this track? Was this based on your own experience?
I’m so glad u guys like MY LOVE! I personally love the song too & I’m so happy to have finally released my first piece of solo music. it was actually the first song I ever attempted to make as a solo artist. it is definitely loosely based on actual experiences from my life, but it isn’t fully about anyone experience or relationship that I’ve had in the past. it’s a culmination of feelings.
You collaborated with Don Toliver on the record. How did that link up happen?
Don Toliver was awesome to work with. I’ve been a fan of his for almost a year now, & it’s wild to think that I have a song with him. the collaboration was made possible thanks to my manager adam. he knew dons manager. after I brought up that I loved dons music, adam reached out to dons manager & sent him MY LOVE. after hearing it, dons team immediately responded & said don was in. the rest is history.
The video for the track is fantastic! Did you find it difficult to film the visual with self-isolation being a necessity?
The video was definitely a challenge to put together. It took about 2 weeks of back & forth facetime’s with my creative director Diane Martel, my manager Adam Mersel, & of course don himself. we weren’t sure how to go about making a video in quarantine, but we knew this song needed a visual component to accompany it. after trial & error over those 2 weeks, we finally got it to a place where we felt proud of the final product. it was an interesting experience, to say the least. it has made me so excited to get back to LA & film a dope high budget video for my next single.
‘My Love’ is your first single as a solo artist. When it comes to your future release, what kind of sound and style can your fans expect?
It’s hard to say exactly what kind of style or sound my next single(s) will have. I have so many songs that I know will come out eventually, but I’m not positive which one will come next. some lean more towards the ‘pop’ sound, & some (like my love) is more urban learning. Then there are some that are completely different. I like to experiment with my voice & the overall sound of my music. you can always expect high-quality music from me, that’s all I can say for sure.
Speaking of future releases, when will the next single be dropping?
I can’t say for sure when my next single will be coming out, but I know that I won’t let too much time pass. I definitely wanted to give MY LOVE the time it deserved to shine, but I know as a music lover, I always want more from my favourite artists. so that’s what I’m going to give my fans. I want to continue to deliver high-quality music at a high rate. I have so many different sounds to offer, so I want to get a catalogue going so people who may stumble upon my music profile/discography, have a wide variety of music to listen to, so they can truly see what I’m all about.
