
High school student and TikTok extraordinaire Jawsh 685 is taking over the world with his original and culturally rich music. Hailing all the way from South Auckland, New Zealand, the young talent has been at the forefront of a global movement with his track ‘Laxed (Siren Beat)’ – spawning the TikTok trend ‘Culture Dance’ in the process. The track has been used in over 55 million TikToks and has been well received by some of his peers including Lizzo, Charli D’Amelio and more. Earning millions of streams and views is just the beginning for this rising star and we can’t wait to see what else he has in store.
We were able to chat with Jawsh 685 about everything from his music inspirations, his sound and so much more…
First let’s start off with how you got your start in music? It’s insane that you’re only 17, when did you first start making beats?
I had a passion for music playing guitar and making siren jams. I first started making siren beats beginning of last year professionally.
What type of music did you grow up listening to?
Elvis, remixes, reggae, Rap.
Is there a producer or artist that stands out to you at the moment?
Too many to think of. Easy E mainly
You’ve had some massive success on TikTok with your track ‘Laxed ( Siren Beat)’. How does it feel to have people like Lizzo and Jessica Alba creating videos with your record?
I feel so blessed that so many people loved my beat during lockdown especially seeing famous ppl like Lizzo, jlo and Jimmy Fallon and of course Jessica alba and Jason Durelo.
What specifically inspired the creation of the record?
I was feeling relaxed and inspired at the time and in a good mood. Basically being relaxed.
What type of vibe do you want your music to exude?
Happy vibe and a relaxed vibe.
You’ve recently reconciled with Jason Derulo and created the track ‘Savage Love (Laxed Siren Beat). How did you two end up squashing your guy’s beef?
To be honest there was no beef. I’m happy we came to an official agreement as his song was pretty buzzy.
If you could produce an album for any artist, who would it be?
I’m not sure at the moment, just focusing on my own music right now!
What’s next for Jawsh 685? What can fans expect in the coming months?
More original beats with some other artists hopefully.
