MORGAN is a UK-based talent that is ready to shine with her debut EP ‘Alien’. The rising talent first made her debut this year with her show-stopping single ‘My Year‘. After setting a precedent for what’s to come, the songstress quickly followed up with her atmospheric singles ‘Sanctuary’ and ‘Mulholland Drive,’ with the latter featuring the popular RnB artist Ebenezer.

The singer-songwriter’s new EP is a testament to her captivating storytelling and powerhouse vocals. From collaborating with Anne-Marie to working with the Rudimental boys, MORGAN is poised as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices.

We were able to chat with the soulful artist about everything from how she’s been staying sane during 2020, her fantastic EP Alien, her creative music video for the title track, and more. Read the full interview below.

Hi MORGAN, thank you so much for sitting down with us! How’s everything going?

I’m good thank you, it’s been a very weird year, but hopefully, it’ll finally clear up. I’ve been focusing on my health and making sure that I am creating great music for everybody to hear – especially once all this madness is over.

How have you been staying sane through all this craziness?

Like everyone, it’s been tough! But I’ve been okay. At the beginning of lockdown, I was exercising a lot and really tried to look after my mental health. Because we are all in this together it puts a little less pressure on us as individuals. It’s a very scary time but there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve been writing a lot of music during this period – it’s something that has kept me normal during this craziness.

Okay, we need to talk about your latest single Alien EP! Absolutely in love with it! What was the creative process like for this record?

Thank you so much – Alien it’s such a pure project. It really came from my heart and I wrote it with some amazing people. The EP was actually inspired by the title track Alien – which I wrote with my big sister Anne-Marie, Thomas Jules and Show N Prove. It set the tone for how I wanted my EP to sonically feel.

Is there a specific message or theme you want fans to take away after listening to Alien?

Yes! The message is that we need more love. It’s funny because this song was actually written last year before Corona, BLM and all the other controversy and messed up stuff going on in the world. Yet the timing of its release was pretty perfect. There is such a powerful message behind this track and I hope people take it in in the way I did.

The visual for the title track is fantastic! Did you always have this TV-type concept in mind?

When sending out pitches for a music video, I want the briefs to be as open as possible and let directors get as creative as possible. I worked with a new director called Tulsi Behl on the video. Out of all the treatments we got in – her vision for the video fits perfectly with what I feel the song is about. It was pretty much everything I wanted it to be and more.

If you had to describe the EP in 5 words what would they be?

Edgy, authentic, bouncy, fun and meaningful.

Throwing it back a bit. Did you always know you wanted to pursue music?

I’ve been in and around music for as long as I can remember. My dad had a studio set up at home and used it to produce. I would always go and annoy him and sit on his lap while he was working. I also taught myself to play the piano from a really young age. I guess music is in my blood and something I find really easy to do. My family have always been so supportive of me pursuing it as a career which has made it a lot easier to do.

Looking ahead, will your debut album be similar to your EP sonically?

In all honesty – I have no idea. I’m still so early in my journey. There will definitely be influences of the EP in it but I also want to evolve and explore. The truth is when I get into the studio I don’t think too much about what I’m going to make – I just write what feels right at the time.

What can fans expect from MORGAN over the next few months?

You can expect collaborations… some epic collaborations. Also, I will never leave my fans with no music – I’ve got a lot in the bag and I’m excited to share it with the world!
