Introducing The Smooth Stylings of Eugy

London-based artist Eugy is a dynamic talent that needs to be on your radar. Eugy first made waves in the industry with his hybrid sound and infectious dance hit ‘Dance For Me’ with beloved artist Mr Eazi. The afrobeat track helped catapult the young talent to new heights.

Over the years, Eugy has steadily risen within the music sphere racking up millions of streams, earning award nominations, and touring with the industry heavyweight WizKid. His latest track ‘Pull Up’ with 24kGolden continues the ‘LoLo’ singers’ upward trajectory and sets the stage for what’s to come.

We were able to chat with Eugy about everything from collaborating with 24kGolden, how he’s managing the second lockdown, and more. Read the full interview below.

Eugy! How’s everything going? Are you good? 

I’m doing good man. You know COVID switched up everything so we had to readjust but I’m good. Thanks for asking. 

 What’s this quarantine looking like for you this time around?

As much as I love London, I’m flying to Accra (Ghana) for a few months to work on new music and visuals. Have to keep the train moving. 

Alright, let’s get to the music. I want to take it back a bit. When did you first realize that music was something you wanted to pursue? 

Since I was about 10. My parents were part of the church choir so music was integral in my life from a young age. It wasn’t until I started secondary school that I was introduced to the likes of Biggy and Snoop Dogg etc… Music was one of the few things that made me focus as a kid.

Were there any artists that stood out to you while growing up? 

Michael Jackson, Notorious B.I.G (Badboy records as a whole, to be honest), Kano, Boyz II Men, Usher, Brandy to name a few. 

You first came onto the scene with your track ‘Dance For Me’ with Mr Eazi. How have you evolved as an artist since then? 

Growth is essential in anything you do in life. Now I record myself and find myself much more experimental than I’ve been before. I’ve flown around the world and experienced life more. 

You have such a dynamic sound! What type of genres or production do you look towards when creating music in the studio? 

Thank you! I can’t lie growing up in my home we were exposed to all types of music. As a result, I genuinely walk into the studio with no pre expectations. We really can go from working on an afrobeat ballad one minute and switch it up to hip hop on the next song. Freedom of creativity. 

We have to talk about your latest single ‘Pull Up’ with 24kGoldn. It’s banging from start to finish. How did that link up come to fruition? 

I’m glad you like the song. I had recorded the song first and reached out to a connected friend to ask him to get me someone lit on the song. He didn’t fail. 24kGoldn literally sent that fire verse back rapidly and ‘Pull Up’ was born.

The video for the track really captures the fun nature of the song. Can you take us through the concept of the video? What were the key elements you wanted in this video? 

Due to COVID, everything has to be done cautiously these days. As much as I was annoyed we couldn’t shoot the video together, I really love the director’s concept. The tale of turning up/ having a good time simultaneously but in two different countries. The contrast between London’s cold/rain and LA’s sun/heat. Best of both worlds. Big up the director and team for a great job.
