Meet The Talented Singer-Songwriter Fousheé

Fousheé is a rising artist that beautifully mixes the realms of R&B, soul and indie to create an unforgettable listening experience. Born and raised in New Jersey, the songstress grew up in a music-led household. Her mother, who is a talented drummer, filled the Fousheé’s world with an array of artists. From the soulful vocals of Toni Braxton and Etta James to the smooth sounds of Bob Marley, no music stone was unturned.

Fousheé first began to hone her craft at the age of six, writing music and performing in girl groups. Over the years she continued to grow as an artist while also attending college. It wasn’t until a life-changing event in her life that Fousheé decided to drop out of college and pursue music full time.

Fast forward to 2021 and the singer-songwriter has earned millions of streams for her music and is poised as one of the industry’s hottest rising talents. With her latest relatable track ‘single af’ making the rounds Fousheé is on track for an unforgettable year.

We were able to chat with the genre-bending artist about her musical beginnings, growing up in NJ, her song ‘single af’ and more. Read the full interview below!

Heya Fousheé how’s it going? 

Going well, no complaints 

Are you over the Rona as much as we are? 

Absolutely!

Alright let’s dive into the music, I want to take it back a bit to your beginnings. Was there a singer or family member that inspired you to pursue music? 

My mom definitely influenced me. she was a drummer in an all girls band named “PEP” in Jamaica. she really put me on. she stopped doing music way before I was born but exposed me to good music very young. wanting to pursue it was something my little imagination came up with.

We hear that you started to write music at the age of six, do you remember what your first song was about? 

Yes, the very first song was I wrote was so silly. I wrote it to a piano stock sound. I believe it was called “you’re in my way”  about someone blocking my entrance to the restroom. after that I wrote a lot about boys which I knew nothing about at the time. 

You grew up in New Jersey but have lived in both NYC and LA. How has your  and artistry and music taste evolved with each move? Did you notice a difference between the music communities of California and New York?

I think NY gave me my tough skin. that’s where I got my chops in live performance. I learned a lot of my music foundation there. in LA I did a lot of writing, recording & some tv. It felt like the natural next level of what I learned in NY. the music communities in both areas just reflect the culture there. I was lucky enough to find a strong sense of community in both places. 

We need to talk about your single ‘single af’ absolutely fantastic!! Can you take us through the creative process for the record? 

That record pretty much wrote itself. I found some chords and just vented. It was inspired by a break up. my thought process was, why are breakups always portrayed as a bad thing in songs. sometimes it doesn’t end on bad terms and it could mean a beautiful new beginning. 

Is there a feeling or meaning that you want fans to take away after listening? 

I want people who relate to look at being single as empowering but I think most of all I want people to feel good.

Listening to tracks like ‘single af’, ‘Deep End’ and ‘Expectations’, it’s safe to say that your music creates such a chill and warm vibe(for me that is).  how would you personally describe your sound? 

I think it’s just a reflection of me really. some airy vox, dark melodic chords, hella harmonies, sometimes bars, witty lyrics. I live somewhere between all those things. 

What can music listeners expect from Fousheé this year?

In 2021 you can expect a project and me making the greatest music I can.
