Meet The Australian Music Prodigy… Eddie Benjamin

If you’re in need of a feel-good artist then acclaimed Australian prodigy Eddie Benjamin is for you. The young talent first made waves in 2020 after the release of his debut single ‘F*ck My Friends.’ Since then he has been working closely with pop icons Sia and Justin Bieber to hone his craft and artistry. Alongside his A-list mentors, Benjamin has already worked with some of the biggest and most diverse names in music including Shawn Mendes, Cordae, Earth Wind and Fire, Meghan Trainor and more.

His latest release ‘Weatherman’ continues to showcase his boundless talent with its vibrant upbeat production and introspective lyrics about embracing life and emotions. With his new music era officially taking off, Eddie Benjamin is ready to open his heart and mind to listeners everywhere. We were able to chat with the 20-year-old about everything from his latest single, his musical inspirations and so much more. Read the full interview below.

Hey Eddie! How’s has the start of this year been for you?

Chaotic, to say the least, but it’s been very exciting.

You just dropped your new single ‘Weatherman’ and it’s such a fun and upbeat track– can you give us an insight into the creative process and how the song came to life?

Myself and Kid Culture worked out of a house in Malibu for over a month creating music. I was going through a lot at the time and ‘Weatherman’ is really about letting go of all of the emotions that control you on a day to day basis and taking control, becoming your own weatherman in your life.

You have worked with some incredible artists in your career so far. Can you give us a little insight into what it was like working with some of those huge artists? 

I’ve learned so much from so many different people. It’s been such an honour being able to work with and observe first-hand so many talented artists and all of their patterns and unique processes.

Let’s take it back to the beginning. What artists or albums inspired you?

So many. To name a few, Bach, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse. 

You are now based in LA, after your move from Australia. Do you feel like this has changed your creativity or some of the themes and topics in your music?

Yeah, definitely, you experience a lot of things very quickly here in LA. But I think the core of me has stayed the same. 

We need to talk about your incredible songwriting skills. What’s your strategy when you approach writing a track – what comes first, the lyrics or melody etc?

Every song is different really. That’s such a simplified answer, but it’s true. They all dictate their own creative stories and processes.

You have your debut album on the horizon. What can we expect from this release? 

You can expect an array of extreme emotions and sounds formatted in the way that I have perceived the world over the last few years.

What are you looking forward to the most in the coming year?

Creating, making people happy, pissing people off, and everything in between.
