Hailing from Salem, MA, the young talent first started his music journey during his middle school years. During his free time, Snøw focused on writing songs – which he viewed as a hobby. However, when he reached high school, the rising star fully immersed himself in his craft. His love for music continued to progress, which led to him learning how to produce his own material. In 2018, Snøw made his official debut with his single ‘What’s The Point’, which earned him praise for his musical prowess. Since that fateful day, the Massachusets native has collaborated with various artists, including Powfu, Sad Boy Prolific and Kina.

Alongside his addictive lo-fi beats, Snøw has also gained notoriety for his honest storytelling, which is particularly apparent in his debut studio album, I Smoke To Cope. Throughout the record, he explores vivid portraits of struggling with addiction, tough love and exercising vulnerability. With the album finally making the rounds and a set of performances on the way, Snøw is showing no signs of slowing down. We were able to chat with the ‘you never meant it’ singer about his new record, music beginnings and creative process. Check out the full interview below.

Heya Snøw, thanks for sitting down with SPINDLE. How is 2022 treating you so far?

It’s been going great, actually! I’ve made a lot of new music and I’m currently learning how to produce on Ableton. So far, it’s been a really creative year. Also, now that Covid regulations are beginning to lift, I’m gaining more opportunities to do shows and possibly even tour in the future!

Before we get into your recent work, let’s take it back to your music beginnings. Which artist helped shape you growing up?

Artists like Ed Sheeran, Bon Iver, Russ, Trippie Redd, and Shiloh Dynasty really influenced my style when I started creating music.

Was a career in music always in the cards for you? Did you have any other interests?

I always knew I wanted to do music or something in the arts like acting or drawing. I feel like everyone doubting me and telling me I wasn’t gonna make it anywhere in the music industry is what really made it be my end goal. I had a desire to prove to everyone that I could do it and I can become someone memorable in the music scene. I don’t wanna be Michael Jackson or Drake, but I would like to make a positive impact on the world through my music.

Since starting your journey as an artist, where do you find the best inspiration for the music and sounds you create?

I’ve gone through a lot of things like everyone else. I feel like there’s so much going on in our lives and our world constantly. So for me, there is always something to be inspired about even if it’s sad or dark.

We have to talk about your fantastic debut album, I Smoke to Cope! How does it feel to have it out in the world finally?

It’s my first album ever, so it feels great that everyone can finally hear what it is that I’ve been working on these past two years of my life. The whole process was a roller coaster ride of emotions. There were a lot challenges I had to face along the way, but in the end, it worked out better than I planned, so I feel really good.

Can you take us through the creative process for the record? What type of themes did you want to explore on the album?

I wanted to touch on love, heartbreak, addiction and loss because those are relatable things. Those are themes that everyone in life has experienced. Nowadays, I feel like drugs are glorified or romanticized. Though the album is called “I Smoke to Cope,” I want listeners to take away more than the just idea of using drugs to feel better. What I want the listeners to take away from the album is that smoking or doing drugs doesn’t eliminate your problems, you do.

Before dropping the project, you released your singles, ‘Another Lie’, ‘Demon Girl’, ‘TOXIC’, and ‘Blaming Me For Us’. Which previously unreleased track from the album are you excited for fans to hear?

I was really excited for “Misbehave” to be released!

How do you want music listeners to feel after they’ve consumed I Smoke to Cope in full?

I want them to leave feeling like they aren’t alone in their struggles and that they are understood.

We also hear that you’re prepping two new performances in April. What can fans expect from a live Snøw show?

They can expect to hear my album live and possibly some unreleased tracks. I want to make it clear that if I’m performing for 20 people or even if the venue is sold out, I’m going to perform my best and try to make it a good experience for everyone.

Alongside your new album and performance dates, what else can fans expect from Snøw in the upcoming months?

Besides making the album, I’ve made more than 50 other tracks. My goal for the future is to drop a single every Friday for a year straight!
