Spindle Radar: Tink Makes Her Grand Return With New Album ‘Pillow Talk’

US R&B singer-songwriter Tink is back with her new album ‘Pillow Talk’, a body of work that brings a new, elevated sound to her repertoire. ‘Pillow Talk’ explores the many emotions experienced in a relationship, boldly and with raw, unapologetic honesty.

We caught up with Tink to chat about ‘Pillow Talk’, the moment Cardi B showed her love on Twitter, and her musical journey from childhood to now.

Hey Tink, how are you feeling now the new album is out into the world?

I’m feeling very relieved and also a little crazy now that “Pillow Talk” is out.. hearing the response and getting love from the fans is the best part.

You say this is your most honest and vulnerable album to date, what inspired you to write the songs on ‘Pillow Talk‘?

What inspired me most is the need to do something new. I wanted to show another side of myself with this project. Its a very sexy and elevated version of Tink.

It’s amazing that Cardi B recognised you and decided to co-sign you. How did that feel and how did it come to fruition?

It felt amazing to see Cardi show love. She’s one of the biggest female rappers in the game, so to see her support me was major. It came out the blue too, so I was really shocked to read it. I logged in to twitter and seen my mentions going off and it was a tweet from her telling people to stop sleeping on me,  so it was really dope.

How does ‘Pillow Talk’ compare to the rest of your releases?

Pillow Talk is nothing like my other releases. The content is grown and my subjects are a lot bolder. It still feels emotional, but its sultry. I love this version of my music because its fresh and shows my growth as an artist.

Is there anything you want your listeners to take away from the album?

I want my listeners to feel comfortable being themselves after hearing this album. I want them to take away the fact that we’re all human. We all go through real emotions in our relationships, and Pillow Talk is an album that touches on everything.

When did you first begin rapping, and what made you decide to pursue a full-time career in music?

I started rapping when I was in high school. After releasing a few different r&b records, I started to mess around free styling. It caught some attention in Chicago, which made me drop more rap songs. But I knew music was my path very early on. By the time I was 14 I was recording myself and putting projects together. It’s what I loved to do.

What music did you grow up with when you were younger?

I grew up listening to a lot of r&b music. I loved r&b groups like SWV, TLC, and Destiny’s Child. My father loved to play funk music also. And my mom was always playing gospel. I kind of took inspiration from it all.

Who would be your dream collaborator?

My dream collab would be a record with Drake. I’ve always loved his music and studied his sound. A record together would be so fire.

What can we expect from you now the album is out?

You can expect a tour coming soon. This year I want to touch bases overseas and come see the UK fans. The energy there is so high ! I can’t wait.
