Introducing The Birmingham-Born Vocal Powerhouse… Bryn Christopher

Bryn Christopher is ready for his next chapter. After building a reputation as British pop’s secret weapon by writing hits for Sigala, Louis Tomlinson and Melanie C, among others, the Birmingham-born vocal powerhouse is now stepping firmly into the spotlight. When he sings “this energy is taking me high, high, higher than I’ve been in my life” on his euphoric new single ‘High’, which was out last week, it’s a welcome reminder of Bryn’s gift for soulful and uplifting dance music. “I love singing live and I want to perform for audiences more often because it’s what I’m meant to do,” Bryn says. “I mean, I can’t keep just singing karaoke for my partner’s mates!”. Check out our full interview with Bryn below.

Hi Bryn, tell us about your new single ‘High.’

‘High’ is a high energetic dance pop tune that I’m super excited to be releasing! For me it’s about that person or thing that makes you feel good about yourself… no matter where you are or how you’re feeling hopefully this song can lift you up!

How did you end up writing this track with Jodie Harsh?

I was asked to go in with Jodie and some producer/writers that I had already written with (Blonde – Me Myself And I). I think she had just been signed and had a massive tune out, which was called ‘My House’ that I loved. They were looking for follow ups so we were thrown together on a zoom call but I had actually met Jodie out on the scene a few times here and there.

You have written songs for so many incredible artists – what are some of the ‘highs’ from the past few years? 

A major high for me would be writing with Melanie C. I was a huge fan of the Spice Girls but even bigger fan of her solo album! I knew every word on it! So, when I was asked to go into the studio with her for a few days I jumped at it! We ended up writing two songs one of which ended up being the debut single on that album ‘Who I Am’. It was so crazy to see her do a music video for a song I helped create. Also, I got to go work with Nicole Scherzinger not long ago (I’ve obviously got a thing for girl bands). I was also obsessed with her! So, to witness first hand her talent was like an out of body experience! 

What are you most excited about releasing your own music again? 

I’m most excited about the possibility of doing some gigs. I have been in the studio for the last few years and haven’t done many gigs. The last ones would have been touring with Sigala singing my song ‘Sweet Lovin” but I’m itching to get back on stage as I just love singing live!  Also, I’m just really happy to be releasing music again.

What advice would you give to any songwriters out there trying to get a start in the music industry? 

My advice would be never give up… many of my songwriter friends have been close to giving up and held on and then overnight become the most successful songwriters in the world. Also, be open to collaborate! I struggled for a while to be able to write lyrics and melodies with other writers as I was used to doing it on my own with a producer doing the track. 

What’s coming next for Bryn Christopher? 

I have some more songs I’m ready to release! And some more stripped-down performances that I’ve had filmed that I’m looking forward to sharing. I’m also continuing to write with others! Recently I’ve been working with Zak Abel and Loreen.
