We got a chance to chat with wavebye about everything from their newest single, upcoming EP release and more…
Describe your latest single ‘show me’ in five words or less
Floaty summer pop rock banger.
‘sugar’ is such an amazing track; who or what inspired the song?
sugar is about helping someone understand it’s ok to let yourself go and be vulnerable again, after being hurt by an ex.
Your debut EP is set to be released at the end of this month, can you go into the creative process of the album?
This EP is something we had been working for over a year, and the process was so different to anything we have done before. This is essentially a studio EP; we demoed, listened, demoed again and then went into the studio and tracked it. Previously we have written everything in the rehearsal room like 99% of other bands, but we wanted to focus on the end product and this approach worked well for us.
What can can listeners expect from the EP?
Instrumentally it’s pretty pop/indie/rock. Lyrically and vocally it’s quite emo. So indie emo pop?
What’s the origin of wavebye? how did you guys form and decide on the name?
We were previously called Faux with a slightly different line up, and wavebye came about from just trying to think of something short, sweet and memorable.
Are there any artist that inspires you guys and the music you all create?
Too many to list inspire us, so many artists have grafted us all as people and musicians. I think it’s very important to listen to a broad spectrum of genres in order to create something truly unique. Too many people invest in to a certain scene or sound for the wrong reasons. We just want to sound like ourselves.
Does the group have any plans to perform or tour soon?
We have lots of ideas and potential dates floating around at the moment, but are just waiting for the festival season to pass.
What are the top three things you guys want to achieve musically?
Originality, personality and passion.
