Introducing Mikey Mike
Mikey Mike is one of those unique artists who come along in the music industry whom you must praise for their ability to express their individuality with confidence and honesty. The LA-based singer/songwriter/producer – originally from Salisbury, US – first garnered attention for his credit on the Rihanna track ‘Jump’ from her 2012 album ‘Unapologetic.’ In an act where you have to appreciate his innovation & tenacity, he secured the production credit by catfishing as an adult film star and received a Grammy award as the outcome.
Whilst writing and producing for other artists Mikey has also worked on his own music including his 2017 debut track Doin’ Me’. The song has become a huge success, with its positive message spreading to a global audience. It’s music video currently sits at nearly two and a half million views on YouTube with uplifting messages flooding the comment section. Alongside this Mikey also has his own free hotline offering life advice to anyone who so wishes to ring in, a further ode to this man’s caring, free spirited nature.
Fast forward to now with his current success and Mikey has released his debut album ‘Mikey Mike’s Life on Earth: Vol.1.’ The album is the first chapter of a greater album which will be released in volumes over his lifetime.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt about being an artist in this industry since featuring as a credit on Rihanna’s album, until now with the release of your debut album?
I think like everything in life it’s learning to walk your own path and do things your own way, even if other people don’t understand. Learning to make music and promote music my own way was kind of the baby step into learning to do everything in life my own way and not second guessing it. I just have come through time to think that walking your own path and blazing your own trail is one of the most powerful things you can do as a person
Did you realise the impact ‘Doin’ Me’ was going to have around the world and how does that make you feel?
I knew it was going to speak to people but I really had no idea on what level and just how many people. I knew it might help someone quit a job or something but I had no idea how many people would say it saved their lives. So crazy and humbling. In the simplest terms it makes me feel really good, and thankful. I feel like even if I die tomorrow, it wasn’t all in vain.
What did you want the artistic direction to be for this album?
I wanted the album to feel like a clear window into my world, to show my highest self and lowest too. It’s a little all over the place because my life is a little all over the place and I think that’s what makes it a kind of fun ride. The goal was really just to be transparent and document my life in a way that might help someone else figure out theirs. And also entertain people. Someone said there’s too much drugs and women on it but I think there’s *just* enough.

The themes of your music are very open and honest; do you think it is important for people to live their lives this way?
I don’t know how anyone else should live their lives. I can only say what I think is right for me. But in a general sense, I would say honesty and transparency can’t ever hurt. I think being Truthful is probably like the cheat code to enter a higher realm of being.
Are you looking to branch out into other areas of art using the platform you have created for yourself?
Yes definitely. I want to do it all. Script writing is another big passion of mine so that’s next on the list.
Where do you draw your inspiration from for writing songs?
The inspiration comes from everywhere. The key is just keeping your eyes and ears open. My buddy was drunk yesterday at a fair and said “dude, I just fell in love with the bartender. it’s over now.” and I immediately wrote it down. There is a song in everything if you look close enough.
Are there any other artists who have approached you to write for them?
A lot of DJs and house people enquired after “Doin Me” came out. Funny part is almost all of them said “can you do something else just like that?” and the answer is “no probably not. that’s why it’s a cools song” ha.
What do you like to do when you’re not working on music?
I love to read. I love to spend time with my friends and meet new people. I love to catch a good belly buzz. And eats lot of pizza. I’m a simple man.
