With his blooming catalog of honest and emotionally raw material, Plested has created a sound that listeners around the world can relate to.

We got the chance to chat with Plested about everything from his single The Least That I Could Do, it’s emotional video, his love for songwriting and more…

The Least That I Could Do is such an emotional track, What inspired the record?

I was thinking about my mum when I wrote this one, on a cold Saturday in London. It’s a song about how much we are all willing to surrender for the ones we love. I’d written in my book, “the least I could do is die for you,” which I thought was a pretty powerful lyric, and then the song just grew from that.

The video for the record shows us a relationship between a mother and son. Did you have this concept in mind during the creative process for the video?

Yes! I always knew the video needed to be simple, to let the song do the talking, but also very relatable. And what’s more relatable than a mother and her child fending for themselves in this crazy world? I love the director’s previous work, and I’m so glad he wanted to jump on board with this song!!!

Your first album, first and foremost, is a fantastic and honest record. Are you working on a new album?

Part 2 is coming soooon. I can’t say too much, but I’m currently deciding on which songs I want to be on there!!!

You wrote for some of the music’s biggest acts, what inspired you to go solo?

I think as a writer, every now and then, you write a song that is too personal or just too special to let anyone else sing. So I had a little treasure chest of songs I was hiding, that’s when I realised maybe I should let them out into the world and see what people think of them.

What are the do’s and don’ts when it comes to songwriting?

It’s cliche to say, but they really are zero rules. No one knows what makes a hit these days, so you should always just write from the heart.

What do you want fans to feel after listening to your music?

I just want people to be able to connect to it really, I talk a lot about human emotions and what I personally go through in life. Sometimes I get messages saying that someone is going through a similar emotion as me, so that always makes it worth it!

Who is your dream artist that you want to collaborate with?

Justin Vernon, aka the Bon Iver front man, what a legend. I think I would write some crazy songs with him.

With 2020 around the corner, what are you looking forward to the most during the New Year?

Getting back out on the road!! I got to introduce myself and my music to so many lovely cities and people in 2019. So it would be beautiful to go back and connect with them!
