Meet Manchester Talent, Jack Curley
If you don’t know Jack Curley’s name yet, get ready–you’ll be seeing it everywhere soon. The Manchester-born singer-songwriter entered the scene with a splash last year when his debut single ‘Alice’ reached over eight million streams on Spotify. Since then, the 21-year-old spent the summer playing various festivals around Europe, a far cry from the hometown pubs he was performing in not long ago. Jack’s showing that this early success is no fluke with his follow-up single, ‘Wait For Me,’ which drops today.
We were able to chat with Jack about everything from his new track ‘Wait For Me’, favourite artists growing up and so much more…
Okay, let’s take it back a bit. Who were your favorite artists growing up?
Growing up, I loved Stevie Wonder, James Morrison, and people whose voices were unique. I was always drawn to interesting voices.
When did you know that you wanted to pursue music?
As soon as I stepped on stage for the first time, I knew I wanted to be a musician.
What has it been like to already find so much success with just one single out?
The reaction to my first single has been incredible, I never expected it, and I am very grateful for everyone who listens to my music.
‘Wait For Me’ is such a gorgeous song, how did it come to be?
‘Wait For Me’ was a song that came quite easily really. Me and Carey Willets sat in his studio and finished the song pretty quick, and we knew it was a great song when we wrote it.
Do you have any standout memories from performing over the past year?
Playing in Italy was one of my favourites, the town we stayed in Kaltern was beautiful, and the whole setting around the festival was incredible.
As both a musician and a singer/songwriter, what tends to come first for you–the music or the lyrics?
When you write a song, sometimes you might take into the studio some ideas of lyrics or hooks, but a lot of the time, it’s just a case of sitting with a guitar and playing some chords and humming a melody.
What do you think you’d be doing right now if you weren’t pursuing music?
If I wasn’t doing music, I don’t have a clue what I would be doing, maybe a teacher?
