Macca Wiles is an emerging trap-rock artist that needs to be on your radar. During his teen years, the Essex-born artist found himself as the odd one out when it came to his taste in music. While friends and classmates gravitated to the indie genre, Wiles soaked in the sleek stylings of hip hop and hardcore sounds of rock. A permanent expulsion from school inspired the rising artist to not only pursue music but to make the overseas move from Essex to Atlanta, GA. After two years of honing his craft, releasing tracks on Soundcloud and earning a reputation in the underground rap scene, Wiles returned back to the UK with a signature sound and a newfound spirit. With his new riveting track ‘Outlined’, Macca Wiles is showcasing his effortless songwriting talent and ability to fuse genres.
We were able to chat with him about everything from his new single, shooting in London during quarantine, his unique sound and more…
You’ve recently released your single ‘Outlined’, absolutely fantastic by the way. Can you take us through the making of the track? What inspired the record?
Thank you I appreciate it, ‘Outlined’ was made last year when I was slowly coming to an end of my three-year addiction of codeine & promethazine. That’s really what the song is about.. it sounds like I’m talking about a girl but really every time I say “she” I’m talking about the lean. I just felt it was important, to tell the truth on what a drug that’s so popularised can do to you rather than glorify it like we’re used to.
The video for the record is excellent! Was shooting around the streets of London your initial idea? How would you describe the visual’s message?
YES, home is home, and I think right now at the beginning of my career in this new sound I’m now making, it’s important that people know and see where I’m from. I’m a proud Brit every given chance I be boasting about my country or be putting the American homies on U.K. rap. The visuals message is the same as the song, that’s how I wanted to capture it. I almost died more than one occasion I really felt like while I’m sipping lean a piece of me is tied to a coffin because if I carry on it’s inevitable.
What kind of music did you listen to when you were growing up?
All kinda shit! I was a big rock head up until my teenage years so if we talking about then, Linkin Park, Kasabian, Kings Of Leon, Korn, Limp Bizkit, System Of The Down, Slipknot, Jay Z, Eminem. The list could go on for a while but mainly those.

Is there an artist in particular that really inspired you to pursue music?
Music as a whole yes, I would have to pay that homage to 3 and that’s Linkin Park, Giggs and Chief Keef. They all inspired me in different ways, but without those artists mentioned, I don’t think we’d be here having this conversation.
You split your time between the U.K. and the U.S. What was that experience like for you? Was it easy to adapt to life in Atlanta?
Mad easy, you can ask anyone that know me they’ll tell you, “Mac will go anywhere he don’t care”. Adapting to life out there was no problem.
Sonically, your music blends different genres and styles. How would you classify your sound?
I still can’t put my finger on any other way to describe it than Trap/Rock. Honestly, I don’t feel like there’s anyone making the same sound as me to the extent I’m doing it so hopefully, the people fuck with something raw and new and name the genre for me haha.
Record, Snatch and Write: If you could record a song with any artist who would it be? If you could snatch a hit song from any artist who would it be? And if you would write a song for someone who would it be?
If I could record a song with any artist it would have be Chester (Linkin Park), Rest his soul, to this day I still don’t really believe he’s not in this world anymore it was always my dream to work with him. If I could snatch a song maybe Tiny Dancer from Elton John, I always loved that chorus. Hmm, writing is tough because I’m the type if I write some good shit ima wanna keep it, but I’d probably write for Drake and get that big cheque.
What can music listeners expect from Macca Wiles in the coming months? A mixtape? An album?
No mixtape, no Album in the coming months.. I have an E.P. set to drop sometime this year hopefully sooner than later. But listeners can expect a lot more consistent drops and whoever listening now is at the start of what’s gonna be a long journey so I can’t wait for them to grow with me.
