Meet Breakout Artist contradash
Emo-rap pop superstar contradash is a talent that needs to be on your radar. Growing up, the LA-based artist spent his weekend’s binge-watching music videos and dreaming about pursuing his own career in the industry. As the years progressed the young talent went on to create his own music from the comfort of his bedroom. With the release of his latest track, ‘petal pickin’, and a sound that blends an array of genres, contradash is proving to be a fresh and innovative artist in the music sphere.
We were able to chat with the singer-songwriter and rapper about everything from his new track, his industry role model, and so much more. Read our full interview below…
When did you first start taking an interest in music, specifically hip hop?
My homie Quentin was always a super raw rapper when we were like 14, and I used to beatbox to his freestyles lol. We loved music way too much to not make it, and neither of us could sing for shit
Is there an artist that you consider a role model – in terms of career and artistry?
Lame Boys ENT! Really nobody touching the gang rn. It’s honestly not close. And Ini Dre.
You are a triple threat – a singer, a songwriter and a rapper – which out of the three is your favourite, which did you find the most challenging?
Man, I appreciate it fr. I get the most reward out of songwriting I’d say, but Ion really know. I’m still pretty midpack at singing n honestly still getting better at all 3. My standards have upped a ton lately, and I almost never like what I end up making. My unrealistic standard of all 3 is the most challenging fasho.
How would you describe your unique sound?
I wouldn’t. Fuck genres tho.
Absolutely love your new track ‘Petal Pickin’! What is the inspiration behind the record?
Thank you!! I made it a long time ago, I always talk about writing songs about imaginary girls and memories I never had. This is one of those for sure.
The video for the single is fantastic! What type of themes or ideas did you want to explore in the video? What do you want fans to take away after watching?
Ahh, I’m glad you like it. I really just wanted a huge light-hearted vibe. That’s really where we tend to shine. I tried to keep everything as realistic as possible. We’re on earth with this video for sure.
With your new single making the rounds, what else can fans expect from Contradash in the coming months?
Just getting more songs (and videos) out. I’m gonna be releasing way more frequently in the next few months, excited for everyone to finally see what we’ve been working on.
