Meet The Phenomenal Emerging Talent…[ K S R ]

If you’re looking for a dynamic RnB artist then [ K S R ] is the singer-songwriter for you. The Manchester-based talent first came into the scene in 2017, with his distinctive RnB/Soul sound. His influences range from the smooth stylings of Erykah Badu to the sleek electric sounds of Miguel. 

Since the release of his first single ‘New Love’, [K S R] has supported the likes of Children of Zeus, Etta Bond, and has been featured on some of music’s most respected platforms like BBC Radio 1. Fast forward to 2020 and the young talent is continuing his rise to music stardom with the releases of his latest EP ‘Take Control’. The new record showcases his growth since working with collective Children of Zeus and highlights his unique hip hop and RnB artistry. With his new EP making the rounds, [K S R] is an artist that’s effortless carving his own lane in the music sphere. 

We were able to chat with him about everything from his love for R&B, his latest EP ‘Take Control’, and more. Read the full interview below.

[K S R] thank you for taking the time out for this interview. How’s it going?

I’ve been good since I dropped “Take Control”. Obviously, with COVID being around I haven’t done much. Just spent the time reflecting and trying to come up with new ideas.

If you could sum up 2020 in five words what would it be?

Well, it depends… Am I allowed to swear? “It’s been a crazy ride”

Alright, I wanna bring it back a bit. When did you first fall in love with R&B?

I fell in love with R&B at a young age. My father would always play classic albums from Micheal Jackson to D’angelo and I was just there watching my father vibe with music all day long.

Is there any artist that helps drive your creativity?

Yeah, I looked up to the likes of D’Angelo a lot when I was young, then as I got older I gravitated to the likes of Miguel, Frank Ocean and Etta bond.

How would you describe your sound? What type of elements or themes makeup [K S R] music?

Honestly, I wouldn’t know how to describe my sound but I feel like I’m just telling stories about my personal life. Briefly talking about what I go through on a day to day basis or even my friend.

You recently dropped your EP Take Control. It such a fantastic body of work. Can you take us through the creative process for the record?

Well “Take Control” started a year ago. Myself and LiTek we’re just cooking up tracks, we didn’t have an intention of making an EP, but after a few sessions, we decided it was the right idea and we just ran with it. 

What experiences and feelings did you want to explore with this EP?

My experience throughout the EP was that I was exploring a new music avenue. See throughout the EP I was expressing the feeling of taking control of your destiny. Owning up to who you are and accepting it.

With your new EP making the rounds what can we expect from [K S R] in the coming months? 

I mean right now I’m still working on music but I’m not sure whether I’ll be releasing another EP or album. Guess we’re gonna have to wait and see right?
