Introducing The Fiery Emerging Talent Nicki Nicole

If you’re looking for an artist that’s making waves within the music sphere, then-newcomer Nicki Nicole is for you. Since debuting in 2019, the songstress has expertly crafted a unique sound that blends the elements of R&B, Hip Hop and breezy reggae.

Her latest track ‘Verte’ is the perfect example of her shapeshifting style and dynamic artistry. With over 300 million streams internationally, a growing fan base and a Latin GRAMMY nominee, Nicki Nicole is setting the stage for her music take over.

We were able to sit down with the 20-year-old songstress about everything from her single ‘Colocao’, her 2021 plans and so much more. Read the full interview below.

Which genres of music did you listen to growing up?

I listened to reggaetón, I always listened to the music that my brothers listened to, and back then the reggaetón that we now refer to as ‘old-school’ was very popular. Daddy Yankee, La Factoría, Don Omar, artists from that era.

Do you remember the moment you decided you wanted to pursue music?

It was three years ago. I was 17 and it was when I made my first song in my bedroom and I said, ok, I think this is what I want to do, but I don’t know if it’s going to work out.

Are there any artists that you look to for creative inspiration?

Almost all of them. Because I think that every artist is an example of patience, inspiration and most of all, originality in every song. Almost all of them inspire me.

Your sound is fantastic! How would you describe your music in 5 words or less?

Five distinct words, or a five-word phrase? I would write it as – quest, patience, strength, rhythm and love.

Being from Argentina, do you try and incorporate the culture and local music sound in your music?

Most of the time. But at times it’s difficult because I’m in the studio and I have something to add but it slips my mind, and then by the time I’m ready to put it in the song it’s already been sent off to be mastered, so it’s too late. But I do it whenever I can.

Let’s talk about your single ‘Colocao’, an absolute banger. (I’m obsessed with the Drake lyric)! Can you take us through the creative process for the record?

The creative process of this song started with a freestyle that came out of a session with Bizarrap. Four months later during the pandemic, I played it back and realized that it’s a very good song, something I thought I wanted to work on and finish at home. Filming the video was different because we recorded it under lockdown at home with my two brothers. It was a lot of fun.

Love the quarantine visual you shot for the track. What type of vibe were you going for?

When I recorded ‘Colocao,’ I had a very joyful vibe, I wanted to motivate people to feel free of the pandemic and all the bad things that were happening. But now I’m in a more typical moment. I’m not searching for a vibe, I just do what I feel. During the earlier months of the pandemic, I felt like it was my duty to put out a song like ‘Colocao.’ It was a goal.

What’s next for Nicki Nicole? Will you be releasing an album or EP soon?

I think my next release will be an album. I don’t know if it will be an EP, because I’m going to be focused on something with more songs. I’m working as hard as I can on it, in spite of everything going on with coronavirus. I don’t know how much time it will take, but it will be out as soon as I can make it happen.
