Meet The Mystifying R&B-Pop Artist Evann McIntosh
If you’re looking for an artist that creates introspective R&B-Pop music then emerging talent Evann McIntosh is for you. Since they were a child, Evann found themselves gravitating to the boundless world of music. At just nine years old, the singer-songwriter began their journey when they started to play the guitar. They continued to hone their craft over the years which led them to recording music in their living room. After meeting producer and frequent collaborator Jesty Beatz on Instagram, Evann was finally given the opportunity to showcase their musical talent to the world.
In 2019, they released their debut record MOJO which earned 24 million streams and spawned the hit single ‘What Dreams Are Made Of’. Fast forward to 2021 and Evann is ready to continue their music take over with the release of their forthcoming album, Character Development. The record, which was written and recorded in their Kansas bedroom, is set to explore modern adolescence, gender identity, sexuality, and growth. With the 13-track album set to be released later this summer, the rising artist is gearing up to share with the world a new side of Evan McIntosh. We were able to chat with them about everything from their upcoming record, their latest single ‘Nobody Else’, and so much more. Read the full interview below.
Heya Evann! How’s it going?
I am doing alright.
June is right around the corner, any summer plans?
Mainly just getting some more ideas in motion. Getting things ready for my album release towards the end of it.
Let’s dive into the music, when did you first fall in love with R&B?
The Time is more funk, but I remember the first time I’d heard the song ‘My Drawers’ by The Time when I was 7, in the car when my dad would take me with him grocery shopping, and after that every time we’d get in the car to the commissary I’d play that song all the way there and back.

- Chaka Khan
- Willie Nelson
Your music evokes such dreamy and mysterious energy it’s fantastic. How would you personally describe your sound?
I do not know, I think it’s closest to Pop or Neo Soul right now.
You recently dropped your romantic single ‘Nobody Else’! What was the inspiration behind this track?
I really wanted to make a beat that sounded like whatever music was played at the end of the Cody Ko Love Island series.
What do you think is the best and scariest aspects of falling in love?
Trusting somebody with your vulnerability is difficult, trusting that somebody could appreciate that. Trusting that somebody could really fully love you wholly. Thats the best and the scariest simultaneously.
Along with releasing ‘Nobody Else’ you also announced the upcoming release date for your album CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Can you take us through the creative process for this project? What elements and themes did you want to tackle?
This whole album I think was written while I was feeling very much like I was trying to protect myself by shoving myself into a mold that I didn’t fit into. So a lot of it ended up being about embracing fluidity and knowing change and growth is inevitable and beautiful.
What can fans expect from the album from a production perspective? Will there be a mixture of genres infused into this album?
It’s really very Pop and RnB or vibe or something like that. A lot of bass and synth.
Out of the 13 tracks, which song are you excited for fans to hear the most?
Coco Pebbles definitely.
With more people getting vaccinated and the world slowly going back to normal, what goals do you want to accomplish in a post-COVID-19 world?
I want to get really good at performing and very confident in it and play shows all over the place and all that.
