It’s finally Friday and we have a banging new Spindle Selects Playlist to help you ring it in. Featuring releases from Arlo Parks, Mysie, BENEE, Labrinth and more. Check out the rest of our selects below…

Arlo Parks – Softly

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Arlo Parks tugs at the heartstrings with her brand new single ‘Softly’. While the production of the record is upbeat, the lyrical content explores a fizzling relationship and the emotional aftermath. Speaking on the inspiration of the track Arlo says: “‘Softly’ is a song about yearning, about how fragile you feel in the dying days of a relationship when you’re still desperately in love. The song is about how it feels to brace yourself before the blow of a break up and reminisce about the days where it all felt luminous.”

Mysie – joyride

Emerging talent Mysie ushers in her new music era with her dreamy single ‘joyride’. Paired with sweet guitar strings, the songstress delivers lyrics about the complications of an inconvenience love. Alongside her immersive lyrics and production, Mysie delivers top tier vocals that showcase her incredible artistry.

BENEE – Beach Boy

BENEE returns with her sunny single ‘Beach Boy’ and we simply can’t get enough. If you’re in need of a breezy track to distract you from reality then this track is for you. The track is full of sweet lyrics about summer days, beach dates and care-free relationships. Speaking on the record, BENEE says: “‘Beach Boy’ is pure fantasy, set in LA. It’s about being happy alone, but still wanting some love; wanting the thrill without the pain. It was the first time I’d worked with Greg Kurstin, and it was so sick…we got on super well, and I love this track…I think it is perfect for cruising down the freeway with the top down.” 

Labrinth – I’m Tired

Labrinth has finally released ‘Yeh I Fuckin’ Did It’ and ‘I’m Tired‘ from the critically acclaimed HBO series Euphoria. Both of the tracks, which have been featured on the first and fourth episodes respectively, bring the series to life and continue to set the tone for its dark season. We can’t wait to hear more from Labrinth.

Junglepussy – Critiqua

Junglepussy brought that fire with her latest single ‘Critiqua’. The Brooklyn native delivers introspective bars that not only highlight her clever wordplay and unforgettable cadence. Alongside her latest single, the MC also dropped her introspective project Jp5000 which features other stand out tracks like ‘Movie Screen’, ‘Foreign Exchange’, ‘Raqueletta’, and ‘Mystical’.

LYNKS – Silly Boy

Emerging art-punk provocateur Lynks drops their first new batch of music with – ‘Silly Boy’. The track is an undeniable club smash that not only delivers a catchy sound but introspective lyrical content. Described as the “takedown of bro-culture”, ‘Silly Boy’ will leave listeners feeling empowered and immune to toxicity. Speaking on the track, Lynks says: “I wrote Silly Boy when I was really f*cking pissed off with one very specific man. In that moment, I felt he represented every entitled, space-absorbing, toxic straight man I had ever met. The kind of man who still lives his life as if mum will do his washing up. The kind of man who snaps his fingers at bartenders, and forces open the doors on the tube.”

The Linda Lindas – Growing Up

The Linda Lindas have dropped their brand new single and ‘Growing Up’ and we simply can’t get enough. Filled with carefree lyrics, the song highlights the glorious ups and downs of “growing up”. Alongside the release of their new single, the group also announced their forthcoming album of the same name. If you’re looking for a feel-good and relatable track, then ‘Growing Up’ is a must-listen.

Cate Le Bon – Pompeii

After a long two year wait, Cate Le Bon has released her brand new record, ‘Pompeii’. The new project touches on “religious” sensibility and features Le Bon playing every instrument (except drums and saxophones). The titular single expertly showcases the hard work she’s put into the record with its haunting sound and lyrics. Other stand out tracks in ‘Running Away’, ‘Harbour’, and ‘Moderation’.

Tommy Genesis ft. BIA – A Woman Is A God

Tommy Genesis taps in BIA for her incredible new remix for ‘A Woman Is A God’. Back by its familiar hypnotic production, the two artists deliver powerful verses that highlight female empowerment and success. When asked about her collaboration with BIA, Tommy says: “This track ‘A woman is a God’ remix with Bia is so close to my heart. I’m such a big fan of Bia’s, I love her music and lyricism and power. She blessed this track and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it. To me it’s just a big mood, the type of song you listen to alone even in a room full of people.” 

Blue Hawaii – My Bestfriend’s House

Montreal’s dance-pop duo Blue Hawaii have released their new electric single ‘My Bestfriend’s House’  and it’s everything we could have wanted. Channelling the feelings of post-lockdown freedom, the track showcases a hypnotic, bouncy and bass-heavy production that will get you dancing all night long.

Nicki Minaj ft. Lil Baby – Do We Have A Problem

Nicki Minaj has returned to music with her brand new highly anticipated track ‘Do We Have A Problem’. Teaming up with Lil Baby, the rap legend delivers intense bars alongside an ever-changing flow. To make the release even better, the triple threat also delivered an accompanying music video that elevates the track to new heights.

Mallrat – Your Love

Rising pop songstress Mallrat display’s effortless confidence in her new single ‘Your Love’. The track marks the singers brand new music era with its dynamic production and fun lyrics. Speaking on the track, Mallrat says:  “When I wrote Your Love, I was listening to a lot of old Memphis rap like Three 6 Mafia and Project Pat. I genuinely loved producing this song and am obsessed with the energy that the Gangsta Pat sample brings. 

Flume – Say Nothing

Wildly acclaimed, Grammy-winning artist Flume returns with their brand new album, Palaces alongside their track ‘Say Nothing’. The electric new single showcases the duo’s wonderful artistry and evolved sound. Speaking on the track, Flume says: “This song is about feelings of post relationship clarity,” says Flume. “We wrote the song midway through 2020 while the pandemic was still pretty new. I was really excited about the initial idea but it was only once I got back to Australia in early 2021 and linked up in the studio with MAY-A that the song really came to life.”

SASAMI – Call Me Home

The Los Angeles-based artist SASAMI shines on her new single ‘Call Me Home’. The track, which is featured on her upcoming album Squeeze, explores the topic of picking up the pieces after impactful life events. “It’s about the darkness of feeling nothing and the creeping ache of apathy that can swallow you whole if you let it. It’s about skipping town, driving all night and knowing you’ll always have a home to come back to,” SASAMI says about the record.

Tate McRae – she’s all i wanna be

Tate McRae sings about toxic beauty standards in her new single ‘shes all i wanna be’. In the pop-rock song, the emerging songstress explores the aftermath of a relationship and feeling inadequate. With its hard-hitting production and fantastic vocals from McRae, ‘she’s all i wanna be’ is set to be a sure-fire hit.

12AM – Showgirls

12AM joins forces with Tyla Yaweh and Pressa in new collaborative single “Showgirls”, a hooky blend of R&B and hip-hop elements that immediately transports you to the dancefloor. It is the type of song that you would blast with your friends non-stop during the late hours of the night – which is what the trio were doing during the track’s initial stage. Great minds think and hang out alike.
