It’s that time of week again and we have a brand new Spindle Selects Playlist for you that’s filled with some incredible singles from Zara Larson, CATE, Harry Marshall and more. See below for some of the tracks featured in our weekly roundup.

Joshua Luke Smith – Liberated

Rapper, poet and wordsmith Joshua Luke Smith releases new single ‘Liberated’, taken from his forthcoming sophomore album of the same name, due March 2024. Having always found power in words, Joshua’s ‘Liberated’ is more than an offering of music, but extends as a mantra to live by. “What does it mean to be free?”, Joshua asks on the record. Embodying a wholly artistic presence, Joshua is a poet before he is a rapper, delivering intelligent metaphorical wordplay. Brimming with soul, ‘Liberated’ is a euphoric moment of clarity and an uplifting story of acceptance.

Joy Denalane ft. Ghostface Killah – Happy

One of soul music’s most vital voices, Joy Denalane unveils new single ‘Happy’, the pivotal song from her upcoming studio album, WILLPOWER. In powerful homage to her beloved late father, who Joy lost while working on the album, ‘Happy’ is about turning deep grief into an appreciation of existence and connection. On the track, Joy is supported by legendary Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ghostface Killah, who offers a compelling verse to this personal narrative. Speaking on the track, Joy explains: “It’s a contradiction, of course. [The song is] about my tremendous appreciation of the last period we had together, when he was already not feeling very well. That’s when our already special relationship really intensified… People say that you only really grow up when your parents die. I think that’s actually the case. Since my father died, I’ve been going through the world differently, it has flipped a switch.”

Harry Marshall – Bones

Rising artist Harry Marshall shares new single ‘Bones’, his third release of 2023, which has seen the artist hone in a confident, signature sound that champions sonic diversity. ‘Bones’ is an irresistible, synth-pop-come-R’n’B track, boasting funk bassline, classic synth motifs and Marshall’s trademark tonality. Lyrically, it’s a song about lust. Of the track, Marshall said: “‘Bones’ is a dark look into the sudden loss of intimacy, even when sexual tension and attraction are both still very prominent. I wanted to capture the idea of how external factors can ultimately lead to two people going their separate ways, and just how crushing that can be.”

Synthwave pioneers Gunship— comprised of Dan Haigh, Alex Westaway and Alex Gingell — unveil colossal electronic-rock banger ‘DooM Dance’, featuring two legendary collaborators: Gavin Rossdale and Carpenter Brut. The track is the third single taken from the band’s hotly anticipated third album UNICORN. ‘DooM Dance’ is a bass-driven, industrial-rock offering that blends EDM influences and the band’s signature synth-heavy style to create a vivid sonic experience. On the track, rock icon and frontman of juggernaut rock act ‘Bush’, Gavin Rossdale, delivers searing vocals, while synthwave powerhouse Carpenter Brut serves up some devastating electronic riffs.

Tiko – Keep My Cool

Following the announcement of his forthcoming album Introduction, Tiko has released a new lighthearted single titled ‘Keep My Cool.’ The airy track is yet another in Tiko’s catalog that gives Jayden — who performs under the Tiko moniker — the opportunity to let his voice shine and is perfect for driving around with your windows down as you embrace the final days of summer. We cannot wait to see what else Tiko and Jayden have in store with their brand new full length, out October 20th!

Seafood Sam – 86 Carolina West

Long Beach talent Seafood Sam has channelled that iconic California swag with his latest single, ’86 Carolina West.’ Filled with carefree lyrics and smooth production, the record captures Seafood Foam’s dynamic artistry and will leave music listeners dreaming about the California sun.

Vagabon – Lexicon

The Cameroonian-American multi-instrumentalist Vagabon is back and better than ever with her new single ‘Lexicon.’ Set to a Mariah Carey-inspired sound, the new track is full of playful lyrics that see’s the beloved talent expand her music talent.

Midas The Jagaban ft Tayc – Louis Vitty

Rising British-Nigerian Afro-pop artist Midas The Jagaban has dropped her impressive new single ‘Louis Vitty.’ With the help of the electric Tayc, the two talents deliver a smooth record full of ”earworm melodies” and immersive lyrics. We can’t get enough.

CATE – One Hit Wonder

Canadian born, London based pop singer Cate has tapped into a country-acoustic sound with her new track ‘One Hit Wonder.’ Backed by an early noughties country pop sound, the summery anthem see’s the young talent reflecting on a past lover, who she compares to the flightiness of a one hit wonder song. does. Speaking on the track: “I wrote One Hit Wonder with my friends last summer after making a joke that a man that I was dating was one. Then the joke went a bit too far when we wrote a whole song out of a whole bunch of one hit wonders. It’s about someone who only really gives you one good summer of fun, but never anything else. And as much as you want to get the song out of your head – you just can’t.”
