Introducing Tanis, The Modern Global Artist Crossing Boundaries and Blending Traditions

Tanis is forging her own lane in the music sphere with her latest track ‘Priority.’ Since she was a child, the emerging artist has been a global citizen. Born to a French writer-producer and a Singaporean top model, Tanis was raised across six different countries, allowing her to learn about various cultures and languages at a young age. Her global upbringing also exposed the ‘Livewire’ artist ‘to the boundless world of music.

As she grew older, Tanis began to carve out her musical path, honing her craft at NYU’s prestigious Steinhardt College, where she became a classically trained composer and multi-instrumentalist. In 2019, she made her music debut with the emotive track ‘Would Be You,’ which kickstarted her journey as a modern global artist. Fast forward to 2025, and Tanis has made her mark in the industry with both her classical and contemporary music. With the release of her “deeply personal” single ‘Priority,’ the singer-songwriter is beginning an exciting new chapter in her journey as a multidimensional artist. We were able to chat with Tanis about her new release, the beginning of her music career, and so much more.

Hi Tanis! It’s great to meet you – hope you’re having a great week so far. Can you tell me a bit about you and what you stand for? 

Of course! My name is Tanis. I am a composer, singer and songwriter and I am so excited to begin releasing a new series of tracks that I have been keeping to myself for the past few years. By nature I would say, and I think my family members would agree, I am quite introverted and sharing isn’t intrinsic for me. However, as cliched as this may sound, I actually channel all my expression to songwriting by telling stories and expanding anecdotes there instead. My hope is that people can resonate with the stories I tell in my tracks and maybe it can help them through whatever they might be feeling, much like other artists’ songs did for me as a shy little kid. 

How do you feel about this new release and what do you hope people take away when listening to ‘Priority’? 

I am so excited about this first release and I think it is the perfect way to begin this new phase for me. “Priority” is ultimately about knowing your own worth and not being afraid to remind people about it. Working in a subjective industry where a lot of people shake your confidence and criticise, I also believe this song marks a shift in me knowing who I am as an artist and not allowing myself to get swayed the way I used to with every single comment I receive. 

The title of this track is very strong – a singular word that can carry so much meaning. I think we all have priorities whether we realise it or not! What would you say some of your main focuses are right now? 

My priorities right now are to keep making music, to keep learning and to stay healthy so I have energy to do all the things I want!

I know you said the writing of ‘Priority’ came together rather naturally and quickly. What was the recording process like for this song? 

Because I wrote and produced “Priority” on my own, the writing and recording process was pretty simultaneous. I was already on my computer with a session open while I started sketching out the arrangement and so I just kept building that out and then finally recorded the vocals in all in my bedroom. The mixing was actually what took me more time as I would do a mix, take a break, listen the next day and then hear new things I wanted to shift around. 

Self respect and putting yourself first is such a big topic of conversation right now – would you like to talk about that more in your upcoming music? 

Honestly speaking, it is not a subject I talk about consistently in my songs, nor do I actively look to include a single subject matter across all my tracks. Although having self-respect is incredibly important, I think we are all multi-faceted and have moments of highs and lows and so my songs look to explore your good days, your bad days and everything else in between because we need music for all those days!

Toujours La is such a great success – receiving national radio rotation and airplay on MTV hits and CStar – are you planning to release more music in French or other languages? 

I don’t know about releasing songs in too many other languages (not that I would say no either!), but of course I would be glad to release more songs in French if the opportunity arises. 

What influences do you think you drew from during your creative process? 

I cannot speak to any direct creative influences when producing the track. When I write and produce I usually just explore the track and try feel out what it needs from my perspective. I never try and force the track to sound a certain way because whenever I have done that in the past I found that I end up scrapping the entire track.  And the beauty of today’s highly connected world is that you can always cover your own track if you feel like a change, remix it or listen to how other people might cover and perform your track!

I do! I have 4 more tracks coming out this year including a really visually stunning and creative music video that I shot with fashion photographer and director Paul Cruz. I am beyond excited to share it soon so please stay tuned for all of that! Thank you!
